  • Moore takes command of Delta Company

    Captain Adam J. Moore took command of Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team at Fort Carson, Colo., on May 10.

    Moore is a native of Elizabethtown and a 2002 graduate of Central Hardin High School. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts from Norwich University, Military College of Vermont, he received a commission as an armor officer in 2006. Moore’s first assignment was as a troop fire support officer and scout platoon leader with Bandit Troop, 1st Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Hood, Texas.

  • American Legion members named Kentucky Colonels

    Irvin Lyons, state commander for the Military Order of the Purple Heart, presented Patsy Chatman and Linda Drummond plaques honoring their commission as Kentucky Colonels.

    Chatman is the unit president and Drummond is the unit secretary for Post No. 148 Auxiliary. Lyons awarded them this honor for the work they have done in helping him achieve his mission of declaring cities throughout Kentucky as Purple Heart cities.

  • Wolf completes Navy basic training

    WOLF. Navy Seaman Recruit Adam Wolf, son of Rosa A. Menchaca of Elizabethtown, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill. Wolf is a 2005 graduate of Elizabethtown High School.

  • MOWW recognizes outstanding member

    The Fort Knox Chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars held its monthly meeting June 19, at its clubhouse on Fort Knox.

    The primary purpose of the meeting was the election of the Chapter Commander and staff to serve the 2012-13 chapter year. Those elected were: Commander – Retired Col. Walter Meinshausen; Senior Vice-Commander – Retired Col. Dale Stewart; Junior Vice-Commander – Retired Lt. Col. John Dinnell; Adjutant – Retired Lt. Col. Lawrence Herzog; and Treasurer – Retired Lt. Col. Richard Ardisson.

  • VGHS class of '47 reunites

    The Vine Grove High School Class of 1947 met for its 65th reunion June 30. The class had a luau theme and met at the home of Herb and Freda Blair. In attendance were Norman and Norma Mae Jones, Ollie and Evelyn Emerine, Kenneth and Virginia French, Bill and Paula Ditto, Marie and Jeff Sanders, Gerald and Delores Dunaway, Alma and Marion Logsdon, Ursal French and Jean Vowels and Herb and Freda Blair.

  • Grants celebrate 65th wedding anniversary

    Bob and Joyce Wiseheart Grant, of Elizabethtown, will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 15, at Nexus Building, formerly Roy’s Furniture, at 6746 S. Wilson Road in Elizabethtown.

    They were married July 25, 1947, at the University Place Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Louisville by the Rev. G. Edward Davis.

    Mr. Grant retired as a sales representative for Morton Salt after 38 years of service.

    Mrs. Joyce retired as a real estate broker and as the organist for Elizabethtown Baptist Church.

  • Bewleys celebrate 50th wedding anniversary

    Henry Donald Bewley and Edith Rose Bewley will celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary July 14, 2012.

    They were married July 14, 1962, at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Elizabethtown by the Rev. William Hancock.

  • Atchers welcome baby girl

    Neil and Mary Donna Atcher of Elizabethtown announce the birth of a baby girl, Whitley Hill Atcher, on April 19, 2012, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.

    She weighed nine pounds, seven ounces and was 21 inches long.

    Big sisters are Addie and Sadie.

    Maternal grandparents are Don and Mary Louis Hill of Elizabethtown; paternal grandparents are Bob and Faye Atcher of Vine Grove.

    Great-grandparent is Tommie Hill of Elizabethtown.
