  • Cockriel celebrates 75th birthday

    Virginia Cockriel of Elizabethtown will celebrate her 75th birthday, today, April 27, 2011.

    She was born on April 27, 1936, in Petersburg, Ind.

    She raised her children with her husband of nearly 60 years, Hubert Cockriel, in Hardin County. 

    She has six children, Gary Cockriel of Elizabethtown, Sharon Vertrees and Brenda Hannas, both of Louisville, Debbie Vance of Elizabethtown and Cathy Morgan and Lynn Butler, both of Rineyville; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

  • 4-H Target Master member competes

    Target Master 4-H Club member Jared Givan recently finished the last leg of the indoor season with the National Field Archery Association by winning first place for the state of Kentucky for the third consecutive year. He also received first place for the first time in the Southeast Sectionals and a fifth place at the National on March 26 and 27 in Louisville.

  • Hollings graduates basic training

    HOLLINGS. Army Pfc. Latisha S. Hollings has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla. A 2009 graduate of John Hardin High School in Elizabethtown, she is the daughter of Louis and Christine Hollings of Radcliff.

    Sharon Richardson of Elizabethtown and Eric Puckett of Leitchfield announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Kayla E. Puckett, to Caleb M. Ernst, son of Bob and Sharon Ernst of Buffalo.

    The bride-to-be is a 2007 graduate of Elizabethtown High School. She is an English major at Western Kentucky University.

    The prospective groom is a 2006 graduate of LaRue County High School and a 2010 graduate of Western Kentucky University with a bachelor’s degree in English.

    The wedding is June 11, 2011.

    Unity Baptist Church will hold a spring revival at 7 p.m. May 1 through May 4. Brother Arnold Moon will speak. Brother Don Flanigan is the church pastor.

Spring is here and summer is close behind it. We have had some beautiful days lately. The temperatures seem to be rising quickly again this year. Some people may be missing the snow before long.

    One day it is hot the next day it is cold, but I guess that is typical of spring. I guess this is “Dogwood winter” They are in full bloom at this time. I know as I grew up there were always a series of so called winters, before the weather usually settled to a more regular temperature, following Easter.
