  • McDonals announce birth of son

    Ashley and Billy McDonal of Mount Washington announce the birth of a son, William “Liam” Thompson McDonal V, on April 7, 2012, at Baptist Hospital East. He weighed 7 pounds 14 ounces and was 20 inches long.

    Maternal grandparents are Jeannie and Gerald Smith of Elizabethtown; paternal grandparents are Patty Graham of Elizabethtown and Billy and Becky McDonal of Mount Washington. Great-grandparents are Ralph Worley of Elizabethtown and Elaine Clark of Glasgow.

  • Chief Schiller speaks to Elizabethtown Rotary Club members

    Elizabethtown Police Chief Tracy Schiller was the guest speaker at the Elizabethtown Rotary Club meeting April 17. He gave an update on the police department and discussed the new program to collect unwanted prescription medicines.   • American Legion honors Four Chaplains

    Sixty-nine years ago, on Feb. 3, 1943, the U.S.A.T. Dorchester was tragically sunk. Of the 902 young men on board, only 230 survived. Many of those survivors owe their lives to the courage and leadership exhibited by the heroic Four Chaplains: a Rabbi, Alexander Goode; Catholic Priest, John Washington; Protestants George Fox and Clark Poling.

  • Smiley graduates from basic and advanced training

    SMILEY.  Army National Guard Pfc. Ciera M. Smiley has graduated from One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Leonard Wood in Waynesville, Mo., which included basic military training and advanced individual training (AIT). A 2008 graduate of Hamilton High School in Ohio, she is the daughter of Gail M. Smiley of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Eddie L. Smiley of Elizabethtown.

  • Rafferty inducted into Elizabethtown Lion's Club

    New Lions Club member Lion Jeff Rafferty was inducted into the Elizabethtown Lions Club during its weekly meeting March 20. IPDG Tony Bishop presided over the installation. Standing in for Lion Rafferty’s sponsor Lion Garrit McEroy, co sponsor Lion Don Brandenburg presented the Lions Club pin. Lion Rafferty is a retired firefighter and paramedic as well as a military retiree and a newcomer to Elizabethtown. He is no stranger to volunteering and enjoys sharing a common goal for the good of the community and its people.

  • Elizabethtown Rotary Club members welcome student guests

    Central Hardin High School students Wesley Edwards and Kyle Weiner were student guests at the Elizabethtown Rotary Club meeting April 17.

  • Flaherty High School Alumni Committee back at work

    Five years have passed since their last reunion with more than 600 people attending. The next reunion is Sept. 8 on the old school grounds in Flaherty. All alums should receive a post card about the event in the near future.

  • Goldenrod Homemakers has April meeting

    The Goldenrod Homemakers Club held its regular monthly meeting April 10 at the Extension Office. The meeting was hosted by Regina Goodman.

    During the regular business meeting, officers were elected for the coming year and lesson leaders were chosen.

     Judy Sandfer gave a lesson on “Saving Water and Energy in your Home and Garden.”
