    It is berry picking time. We have had strawberries and now raspberries. We can’t wait until the rest of our garden is ready.

  • Gilpins announce birth of Chloe Marie

    Cory and Margaret Gilpin of Elizabethtown announce the birth of a daughter, Chloe Marie Gilpin, on June 1, 2013, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She weighed 6 pounds, 9 ounces and was 18½ inches long.

    Maternal grandparents are Mona Holbert and Jimmie “Tater” Sherrard of Elizabethtown; and paternal grandmother is Cheryl Gilpin of Elizabethtown.

    Maternal great-grandmother is Shortie Holbert of Howevalley; and paternal great-grandparents are Luther and Ann Gilpin of Bardstown.

  • VFW Post 10281 hosts motorcycle run

    Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10281 recently hosted the 11th Annual Spring fling, a fundraising “Run for the Homeless Vets.”

    The Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association, Kentucky Chapter 1-2 organized this year’s event and the poker run began and ended at the VFW Post. The morning began with participants signing up for the event, then breakfast at the Post. At the completion of the run, riders returned to the VFW post, where door prizes were given out and the riders took time to discuss the run, sharing camaraderie and memories of past runs.

  • Cox graduates from basic training

    Air Force Airman 1st Class Curtis N. Cox graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio. He earned distinction as an honor graduate, graduating in the top 10 percent of his class of 661 airmen. He also received a certificate of “Thunderbolt” for exceeding the BMT fitness standards with a composite score of 90 or above on the Air Force Fitness Assessment.

  • VFW and Ladies Auxiliary support Rachel’s Project

    Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10281 and Ladies Auxiliary recently joined other community organizations in supporting “Rachel’s Project.”

    Rachel Ritchie, a 9-year-old Vine Grove resident, made a presentation to Vine Grove City Council members in February to get an ADA-accessible playground so all children could play together without some physical differences being so easily noticed.

  • Scouts place flags on veteran’s graves

    Cub Scout Pack No. 24 joined American Legion Hardin Post No. 113 family members in placing flags on veterans graves Memorial Day weekend.

  • Dixon-Darnell supports Oklahoma tornado victims

    Dixon-Darnell Commandery No. 19, Knights Templar, P.H.A. of Elizabethtown Secretary Freddie Peete presents a donation to Erica Villanueva of the Fort Knox Red Cross Branch, to benefit the Oklahoma tornado victims. 

  • Stitchers gather for May meeting

    The May meeting of the Stitchers Quilt Guild included approximately 12 visitors from a quilt guild in Fishersville. Members came and brought lots of quilts for show and tell.

    Additionally, member Hannah Myers, who does lots quilting for members and nonmembers, gave information and advice on “Preparing your quilts for quilting.”  Guest Kim Williams show quilts made from the 90 Degree Ruler and demonstrated using the ruler to make round quilts.
