• Weaver speaks to Democratic Woman’s Club

    The Hardin County Democratic Woman’s Club held their monthly meeting at Nolin RECC on Feb. 4. The quest speaker was Retired Col. Mike Weaver. Retired Col. Weaver, a former state legislator for Hardin County, hopes to have the last surviving World War II barracks at Fort Knox restored and open in 2013.Weaver, the project manager, spoke to the club about the volunteers and donations that have and still need to happen to complete the project.

    The Hardin County Democrat Woman’s Club next meeting is at 6 p.m., March 12, at Nolin RECC.

  • South Central Bancshare of Ky. Inc. participates in Penguin Plunge

    The South Central Bancshares of KY Inc. Elizabethtown team recently participated in The Penguin Plunge for Junior Achievement.

    The team, Ken Dozer, Jason Aaron, Adriana Wilkerson and Brandon Fogle, came away with trophies for having the greatest number of participants as well as being the group that raised the largest amount of money, Ken Dozer being the individual who raised the most for JA’s Financial Literacy Program.

  • Woman’s Club of Elizabethtown members participate in Fourth District Winter Conference

    Members of the GFWC Kentucky Woman’s Club of Elizabethtown recently attended the Fourth District Winter Conference in Campbellsville. The Campbellsville Woman’s Club hosted the conference at First United Methodist Church. Following the February healthy heart month theme, table centerpieces were vases of red roses. They also had a meal catered for the event.

  • McLaughlins celebrate 50th anniversary

     John and Karoline McLaughlin of Vine Grove will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary today, March 8, 2013.

    They met in Germany and were married March 8, 1963.

  • Radcliff and Fort Knox Tourism Commission participates in sports, boat and travel show

    The Radcliff/Fort Knox Convention and Tourism Commission was among the 600 exhibitors at the 2013 Ford Indianapolis Sports, Boat and Travel Show. The 10-day event was Feb. 15 through 24 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Commission representatives were able to connect with thousands of potential travelers looking for vacation ideas. Attendees expressed great interest in the grand re-opening of the General George Patton Museum of Leadership on June 14, as well as the newly restored World War II barracks.

    March is here and hopefully it will bring some warmer temps. My opinion is if we aren’t going to get any snow, it should be warm. The flowers are blooming and the birds are singing so spring must be on its way.

    Hannah Goggin and Jason A. Nunn announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.

    The bride-to-be is the daughter of Allen and Brenda Goggin of Danville. A 2006 graduate of Boyle County High School, she attended the University of Kentucky and graduated from Bluegrass Nurse Center in 2007 with a CNA license. She is employed at Commonwealth Cancer Center in Danville.
