  • Atria residents give back

    The residents at Atria Assisted Living in Elizabethtown are giving back in big ways. To help local children start the school year off right, residents purchased $175 worth of school supplies. As a group, they delivered the supplies to Hardin County Schools for local students to use and enjoy.

    Secondly, to support the Family Resource and Youth Service Centers, residents donated $500 to the center.

  • Memorial United Methodist Youth volunteer at Warm Blessings


    The Memorial United Methodist Youth Group, along with parents and youth leader Dewey Cruze, recently spent an evening volunteering at Warm Blessings Soup Kitchen. Members served a meal to more than 70 patrons, washed dishes, cleaned tables, swept, mopped, ran the sweeper and emptied trash. 

  • Brawners celebrate 50th anniversary

    Larry and Elanor Brawner celebrated their 50th anniversary Aug. 24, 2013.

    They were married Aug. 24, 1963, in the old United Methodist Church in Liberty by the Rev. Walter Arnold.

    Mr. Brawner is the son of the late Willard Sr. and Laetitia Cofer Brawner of Glendale. He is retired from Hardin County Schools.

    Mrs. Brawner is the daughter of the late Fred J. Burkhard and Esther Weller Burkhard of Liberty. She is retired from Fort Knox Community Schools.

    They are members of Elizabethtown First Christian Church.

    Leslie Krista Osborne and Paul David Slaughter, both of Louisville, were married May 26, 2013, in an outdoor ceremony at Sawyer Hayes Center at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park in Louisville with the Rev. Tara N. Reck officiating.

    The bride is the daughter of Margee Osborne of Elizabethtown and the late Randy Osborne.

    The groom is the son Edna Slaughter of Clarksville, Ind., and Donald Slaughter of Charlestown, Ind.

    The bride was given in marriage by her mother, Margee Osborne, and her brother, Steve Osborne.

    We have been enjoying some very comfortable fall-like weather lately, but I think summer is coming back, according to the weatherman. I feel for those children and helpers on those hot school buses. Do be very careful as you drive, keeping a watchful eye for those children alongside the road waiting for their bus, as well as those boarding and getting off the buses.

    Dr. William and Sarah Eriksen of Elizabethtown announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Dr. Teddi Michele Eriksen, to Christopher O’Neal Peters, son of Farlan and Faye Peters of Elizabethtown.

    The bride-to-be is a 2000 graduate of Central Hardin High School and a 2010 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic. She is vice president of Eriksen Chiropractic Corporation.

    The prospective groom is a 1997 graduate of Central Hardin High School and a 2005 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University.
