    Kristen Annette Lee of Shepherdsville and Kyle Thomas Nunn of Louisville were married Aug. 5, 2013, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Savannah, Ga., with Jake Aldrich officiating.

    The bride is the daughter of Mary and Sammy Allen of Shepherdsville and Alan Lee of Elizabethtown.

    The groom is the son of Deneen Cooper of Louisville.

    The bride was given in marriage by Alan Lee and Sammy Allen.

  • Beattys celebrate 50th anniversary

    H.L. "Hank" and JoAnn Bratcher Beatty of Elizabethtown will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 31, 2013.

    They were married Aug. 31, 1963, in Jeffersonville, Ind.

    Mr. Beatty retired after 35 years from Fort Knox. He enjoys hunting.

    Mrs. Beatty enjoys crocheting.

    They have four children; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

  • Lyons named Region II Purple Heart 2013 Patriot of the Year

    Past Kentucky State Commander Military Order of Purple Heart Irvin Lyons Jr. received Region II Purple Heart 2013 Patriot of the Year while attending the National Purple Convention in Rogers, Ark., Aug. 10. He was accompanied by his wife, Gail Lyons.

  • NARFE Chapter No. 1050 members gather for August meeting


    Chapter No. 1050 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees met Aug. 5 in the conference room at Nolin RECC. The evening potluck meeting was well attended, including several new members and guests.

    Members received National NARFE and legislative issue updates, which affect all active and retired government employees. Members also learned the State Convention will be in Louisville in April, and dues for new members have been reduced to $40 for next year.

  • Baby shower held to benefit Clarity Solutions for Women


    The second annual baby shower for Clarity Solutions for Women was Aug. 4 at First Christian Church in Elizabethtown.

    Baby bottles were handed out in advance by the organizer of the shower, LaAnna Mraz, with instructions to fill the bottles with change. Slightly more than 100 bottles were distributed and returned with more than $1,500 in coins.

  • EPD hosts open house

    The Elizabethtown Police Department hosted an open house Aug. 10 for the public to learn more about what the department does for the community. The Hardin County LEO Wives, a local support group for spouses of law enforcement, was there to help out with the event. They handed out flashlights and had a coloring table set up for the kids. Several children stopped by to color and ask questions about police officers.

  • Hardin Memorial Hospital to host HeartChase

    The American Heart Association’s HeartChase™ is a community event that provides a fun way to promote physical activity and healthy living. The event is from 9 to 10:30 a.m. with registration at 8 a.m. Sept. 7, at Hardin Memorial Hospital, 913 N. Dixie Ave., Elizabethtown.

    HeartChase brings families, friends and coworkers together in teams of two to fivein a community-wide competition to uncover clues, solve puzzles and complete challenges in a race to the finish line. Games combined with friendly competition and a mission creates great fun with a purpose.
