    Pamula Horn and Michael Dague, both of Radcliff, announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.

    The bride-to-be is the daughter of Mike and Wanda Horn of Cecilia.

    The prospective groom is the son of Jack and Shirley Dague of Elizabethtown.

    The wedding is at 8:30 p.m. July 19, 2013, at the Brown-Pusey House in Elizabethtown with a reception to follow.

  • Johnsons celebrate 60th anniversary

    Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lee Johnson Sr. of Shepherdsville will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary July 22, 2013.

    They were married July 22, 1953, in Jeffersonville, Ind.

    Mr. Johnson is a veteran and was employed at Reynolds Metal Company for 16 years. He was a home builder for 40 years, to include the building of the Scenic Trail Apartments, which he and Mrs. Johnson continue to maintain. He also enjoyed coaching little league.

    The weather has been less than desirable. I think we have had enough rain now. The gardens are growing but now they are mud. The fair is this week, hopefully the rain will let up so the fairgrounds won’t be a mess.

    The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Flowers of Elizabethtown. She is a 2011 graduate of the University of Kentucky.

    Ricky and Sandy Brooks of Elizabethtown announce the birth of a granddaughter, Riley Claire Brooks, on March 28, 2013. She weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces and was 19 inches long.

    Parents are Christopher and Jennifer Brooks of Lancaster.

    Additional grandparents are John and Linda Crace of Lancaster.

    Great-grandparents are Pauline Maddox of Nicholasville, Chester and Margaret Brooks of Rineyville and Clifford and Mary Thompson of Elizabethtown.

  • 4-Hers participate in horse show

    Kentucky is known for its horses so there is no wonder the state 4-H Horse Show has such a large group of youth participating July 5 through 13 at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center in Louisville. As a result of their involvement in county, district, state and national events, 4-Hers gain a sense of belonging from the camaraderie with others with similar interests and often share their expertise with their families and others in the community.

  • Motorcyle club has flag retirement ceremony


    On June 15, a flag retirement ceremony took place at the Chapter B, Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Clubhouse in Flaherty.

    The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Motorcycle Club holds this event annually. The public was invited to attend and witness the ceremony on how to properly retire worn and torn U.S. flags. Master of Ceremonies was Brother Deacon from Sons of God Motorcycle Club.
