  • Louisville birders visit Greenspace trail

    Early-morning, spring-like weather March 12 brought Louisville Beckham Bird Club members to Freeman Lake in Elizabethtown. The birders, from left, Nancy Vance, Tom and Colleen Becker, Bill Friel and Tom Barnell identified more than 20 species of water and shore birds within an hour. There was praise for Greenspace’s Greenbelt Trail, which allowed them easy access to the varied birding habitats.

  • Elizabethtown Lions welcome Salak and Tarver

    At a recent meeting of the Elizabethtown Lions Club guest speakers Christine Salak and Steve Tarver shared with the club why having a YMCA in the area would benefit the community. The YMCA’s mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body. The Y teaches healthy living, social responsibility, youth development and quality of life for seniors. It serves all ages with equal respect and caring. It was Nanette Johnston, superintendent of Hardin County Schools, which gave root to the idea of a YMCA in the area.

    Angela Brackett and Robert Walters, both of Elizabethtown, announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.

    The bride-to-be is 2010 graduate of Elizabethtown Community and Technical College Nursing Program.

    The prospective groom is the son of Rick and Alesa Walters and is a student in the Medical Information Technology program at ECTC.

    The wedding is March 17, 2011, in Las Vegas. A reception will be held on March 25, 2011, at the Historic State Theater Gallery.

    Grace Fulkerson announces the birth of a sister, Caroline Leigh, on Dec. 22, 2010, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She weighed 8 pounds and was 18 ½ inches long.

    Parents are Kenneth Jr. and Julia Fulkerson of Hodgenville.

    Grandparents are Carlos “Cotton” and Martha Riggs of Hodgenville and Kenneth and Rita Fulkerson of Sonora.

    Great-grandparents are William and Evelyn Fulkerson and Mary Gardner, all of Upton, the late Edward Reynolds, the late Raymond Gardner, the late Herman and Christine Burba and the late Grover and Marie Riggs.

  • Millers celebrate 50th wedding anniversary

    Paul and Bonnie Miller of Eastview will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at 7 p.m. March 18, 2011, at Central Hardin High School.

    They were married March 18, 1961.

    Mr. Miller is retired from Wehr Constructors.

    Mrs. Miller also is retired.

    They have three children, Perry Miller and Stephen Miller, both of Eastview, and Twyla Hill of Rineyville; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

    All friends and relatives are invited to attend. Food and drinks will be provided. No gifts, please.
