• Zonta Club supports Helping Hand of Hope

    The service project for the July meeting of the Zonta Club of Elizabethtown was large boxes of cereal for Helping Hand of Hope. David Dozer of Helping Hand of Hope was the guest at the meeting, telling members about the work of the organization and future plans for a new facility.

    The Zonta Club will holds its 20th annual golf scramble Sept. 15 at the Heartland Golf Club. Proceeds will be divided between Helping Hand of Hope and Zonta Club scholarships for nontraditional women students.

    Ronnie and Wanda Johnson of Cecilia will celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary Aug. 16, 2013.

    They were married Aug. 16, 1968, at Cecilia Baptist Church by the Rev. Norris Smith.

    They have lived in Cecilia for 36 of the 45 years.

    Mrs. Johnson is the daughter of the late Ralph and Joyce Morgan.

    Mr. Johnson is the son of Dallas and Juanita Johnson of Vertrees.

    I cannot believe school has started already. Where has the summer gone? When I was young, my grandma used to tell me as you get older, time goes by so much faster. At the time I thought she was a little nuts, but now I know exactly what she meant. Time is flying by now and sometimes I wish I could slow it down for just a little while.

    Kirk and Heather Brown of Elizabethtown announce the birth of a son, Brody Evan Corbit Brown, on Feb. 15, 2013, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He weighed 7 pounds, 15 ounces and was 20 inches long.

    He has two brothers, Connor and Noah Brown.

    Maternal grandparents are Jerry and Sherry Corbit of Elizabethtown; and paternal grandparents are Vicki Brown of Elizabethtown and the late Bob Brown.

    Maternal great-grandfather is Roy Hilton of Elizabethtown.
