  • Civil War Days Living History event planned for Memorial Day weekend

    This year marks the 20th Annual Civil War Days Living History event at Union Fort Duffield in West Point.

    The Memorial Weekend Living History program is an educational and entertaining experience for the whole family. Union and Confederate reenactors bring to life the history of one of Kentucky’s nearly forgotten Civil War treasurers and the daily life of the Civil War soldier.

    Opening ceremonies are at noon May 27, with continuous presentations on weapons and uniforms and infantry and artillery firings.

    Dewight and Marla Glover of Vine Grove announce the birth of a great-granddaughter, ‘Ailani Namahaokalani Mathews, on Dec. 27, 2011, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She weighed 6 pounds, 2 ounces and was 18 inches long.

    Parents are William Tyler and Bethany Ann Mathews of Radcliff.

    Maternal grandmother is Sandra Ann N. Glover of Atlanta. Paternal grandparents are Donna Allen and Gary Mathews, both of Radcliff.

    Additional great-great-grandparents are Emily N. Pall of Nanakuli, Hawaii, and Ruth Hawkins of Elizabethtown.

    Dewight and Marla Glover of Vine Grove announce the birth of a great-granddaughter, Carleigh Ryanne’ Wainani Namahaokalani Stotler, on March 31, 2012, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She weighed 8 pounds, 6 ounces and was 20 inches long.

    Mother is Ashley Renee’ M.N. Stotler; and she has a brother, Bryan James Grimes-Stotler of Vine Grove.

    Maternal grandmother is Sandra Ann N. Glover of Atlanta.

    Maternal great-great-grandmother is Emily N. Pall of Nanakuli, Hawaii.

    Jeff and Cindy Heady of Magnolia announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Erin Leigh Heady, to Ryan Keith Bratcher, son of Keith and Patty Bratcher of Leitchfield.

    The bride-to-be is a 2008 graduate of LaRue County High School and a 2012 graduate of Western Kentucky University with a degree in elementary education.

    The prospective groom is a 2003 graduate of Grayson County High School and owner of Bratcher Construction in Leitchfield.

    Brad and Debbie Reynolds of Platte City, Mo., announce the birth of a daughter, Caroline Elizabeth Flores Reynolds, on March 2, 2012, at North Kansas City Hospital. She weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces and was 19.25 inches long.

    She has a brother, Brandon, and a sister, Abby.

    Maternal grandparents are Dr. and Mrs. George Flores of Radcliff. Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Joel Mattingly of Sabina, Ohio. Great-grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Roy Pence and Dorothy Reynolds.

    We had almost three inches of much needed rain over the weekend, which should make the crops really grow. Those who still had unplanted crops will have to wait a few days.

  • Browns celebrate 50th anniversary

    Robert M. and Mary Catherine Thomas Brown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary May 5, 2012.

    They were married at St. John Catholic Church in Rineyville. They are active members of St. James Catholic Church and the owners of Brown Funeral Home.

    They have five children, Jeanne McKinley, Lora Dixon, Melissa Lang, Mike Brown and Tommy Brown; and 11 grandchildren.

    An open house celebration in honor of their 50th anniversary is from 2 to 5 p.m. May 27, at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Leitchfield Road in Elizabethtown.
