    Holly Ann Burnett of Elizabethtown and Daniel Allen Mudd of Bardstown announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.

    The bride-to-be is the daughter of Lisa Burnett of Elizabethtown and the late Bradley Burnett. She is an administrative assistant at Swope Toyota.

    The prospective groom is the son of John and Susan Mudd of Lebanon. He is a technician at Scott Nalls in Elizabethtown.

    The wedding is at 5 p.m. May 19, 2012, at Spalding Hall Lawn in Bardstown with a reception to follow in the Spalding Hall Penthouse.

  • Fort Knox, VFW sponsor veteran’s bowling tournament

    Fort Knox and VFW Post 10281 of Vine Grove recently sponsored a veteran’s bowling tournament at Fort knox. There were 26, five-person teams, ages 18 to 92, that bowled. A local team, Band of Brothers, was the winner. Pictured is Bob Pack, commander of VFW Post 10281 with Hal Gladsen of Newport and bowlers from other parts of Kentucky. An awards ceremony, dinner and dance was held later at VFW Post 10281.

  • VFW supports cancer aid and research program

    Commander Elect 2012-13 Butch Ferrell recently presented a monetary donation to the Deptarment of Kentucky VFW Ladies Auxiliary for its cancer aid and research program. Accepting the donation is Jenina Montgomery, Fourth District president.

  • Couch graduates from Army basic training

    COUCH. Army Pfc. Dillon W. Couch has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. A 2010 graduate of Liberty High School in Kissimmee, Fla., he is the son of Lori and Steve Couch Sr. of Radcliff.

    SMITH. Army Spec. Byron Smith Jr. has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. A 2005 graduate of Greensboro East High School in Ala., he earned a bachelor’s degree in 2009 from Talladega College in Ala. He is the son of Willie Mae Smith of Greensboro and Fayon Davis of Elizabethtown.

    Denise Jones, representing the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association, was the guest speaker at the Elizabethtown Rotary Club meeting May 8.
