• Lynnvale High School Class of 1953 has reunion

    Lynnvale High School Class of 1953 spent the day in White Mills on June 22 commemorating their 60th graduation.

    Lorene Crawford Shell is of Indiana, Jack Jackey is of Florida, Joe Morrison, Margaret Blan Tucker and Georgene Noe Smith are all of Louisville and all other remaining graduates live in Hardin County.

    Seven graduates are deceased, Gerald Blanford, Clara Ethel Dupin Buckley, Lillian Gray Terry, Pauline Hatfield Borders, James Lush, Mona Claire Peerce Wood and Ray Edwin Johnson.

    The June meeting of The Garden Club of Elizabethtown was a great success. Jamie Disselkamp of Hosparus gave a warm and engaging presentation on the nature and specifics of hospice care while members enjoyed some light refreshments courtesy of hostesses Carolyn Scott, Ruth Johnson and Jackie Huffines. Later, all the club members gathered in the Cunningham Garden for a group picture in honor of National Garden Week.

    On graduation night, May 25, North Hardin High School successfully hosted Project Graduation to more than 500 students, including 276 students and their guests. The high school students enjoyed themselves due to the cooperation and generosity of the entire community.

  • Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland names July volunteers of the month

    Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland named Helen McCloy and Jan Harding volunteers of the month for July. They started volunteering in September 2012 and have been regulars ever since. They come on Wednesdays and Thursdays and always arrive smiling and ready to chat over some coffee and a cookie before getting to work.

  • Seventeen compete for Miss Hardin County Fair 2013


    The Miss Hardin County Fair Pageant is at 8 p.m. Monday, on opening night of the Hardin County Fair. Miss Hardin County Fair 2012 and reigning Miss Kentucky County Fair, Jenna Walters, will crown this year’s winner.

    The following 17 young ladies will compete for this year’s title.

    Amber Rene Vincent, 17, daughter of James and Lesley Vincent of Elizabethtown, sponsored by her parents and Bangz Salon.

    Dashawna Bird, 20, daughter of Henry and Brenda Divis of Elizabethtown, sponsored by Mark Martin of A-1 Allergy Relief.

    Stephen and Rebecca Williams Copelin of Clarkson announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their son, Kyle Stephen Copelin, to Rachel Renay Miller, daughter of Jimmy and Angie Miller of Sweeden.

    The bride-to-be is employed with the U.S. Postal Service.

    The prospective groom is employed with Chad Haycraft Concrete.

    The wedding is at 6 p.m. CDT July 12, 2013, near their future home, 870 Little Mountain Road, Sweeden.

    All friends and relatives are invited to attend.

    Today I got to visit a women’s help center called Nicole’s Place. I was there to help teach children about Jesus, but just watching the work that goes on there was inspiring. The workers there were so caring about their clients. It is a Christian-based organization that touches the lives of many women and their children. It is so wonderful to see women helping each other through Jesus.
