    We still are having cooler weather. Guess we should enjoy it while we can. Cory and I watched Thunder over Louisville on television. The show was awesome. Sunday we went bike riding to enjoy the day.

    C.H.H.S. BAND. The Central Hardin High School Concert Band will have its last performance Monday night at the school along with eighth-graders from East and West Hardin middle schools.

    The weatherman can’t seem to make up his mind, we had summer like weather for two or three weeks, now it seems like early spring again. During those warmer days, we planted some garden but with this cool weather we probably will have to plant over. Seeds sometimes sprout and perish if the weather turns too cold and chills the soil again. But as we said, if what we planted doesn’t come up, nothing but a few seed and labor lost. If they do we are that much ahead, and have earlier vegetables.

    I have noticed many gardens have been planted around the county. I hope it doesn’t frost any more and ruin the plants. We have planted our cabbage and our peppers so far. The rest is soon to come.

    Angie Cundiff Johnson of Upton and Christopher Miles Powell of Elizabethtown announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.

    The bride-to-be is the daughter of Donnie Cundiff and the late Cathy McNutt. She is employed at Swope Motors.

    The prospective groom is the son of Jack and Dawn Powell. He is employed at Adams Magnetic Products.

    The wedding is June 14, 2012, on the beach in Panama City, Fla. A celebration will be July 14 in Elizabethtown.

    Invitations will be sent.

    COMMUNITY MEETING. Stephensburg Community will have a meeting at 7 p.m. May 10, in the Old School House building to talk about Stephensburg Day and activities for the day. Everyone is welcome to attend and bring ideas.

  • Stevenses welcome Avery Elise

    Patrick and Megan Stevens of Nashville, Tenn., announce the birth of a daughter, Avery Elise, on  April 11, 2012, at Vanderbilt Medical Center. She weighed 6 pounds, 3 ounces and was 20 inches long.

    Maternal grandparents are James and Elizabeth Skorupa of Walnut Creek, Calif.; and paternal grandparents are Lawson and Patricia Stevens of Elizabethtown.

  • Griendling updates Rotary Club members on Veterans Tribute

    Rich Griendling was the guest speaker at the Elizabethtown Rotary Club meeting April 24. He gave an update on the new Veterans Tribute. Pictured are Elizabethtown Rotary Club President Michael Owsley and Rich Griendling.

  • Allegro Dance Theatre produces Beauty and the Beast Jr.

    Allegro Dance Theatre recently produced the Disney classic musical, Beauty and the Beast, Jr. to audiences of more than 4,500 at the Hardin County Schools Performing Arts Center. The musical was produced by the Allegro Dance Theatre Musical Theatre Ensemble and was directed by Carol E. Zagar and Eric Pope.

    In the lead role of the Beast was Clay Franklin. Franklin now is a freshman at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College, where he has continued his theatre experience and is performing with Katrina Eicher’s acting troupe.

  • Rogers completes Naval Nuclear Power Training Pipeline.

    ROGERS. Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Phillip A. Rogers, son of Laurice and John Rogers of Hodgenville, recently completed Naval Nuclear Power Training Pipeline. He is a 2004 graduate of Waggener High School in Louisville.

    Commander Bob Pack of VFW Post 10281 of Vine Grove recently attended a ceremony for the 11th Aviation Commands Fallen Soldiers Memorial and Celebration Ceremony on Fort Knox and presented Kevin Costner with a necklace from the Vietnam Era.
