• Hardin County Playhouse recognizes volunteers

    Hardin County Playhouse held it end-of-season volunteer appreciation party June 25. The awards were presented by Board President Marilyn Notestine. Kaity Paschetto was awarded the Hardin County Playhouse $1,000 Fine Arts Scholarship and will attend the University of Michigan this fall. Paschetto has starred in several Hardin County Playhouse productions.

  • Woman’s Club of Elizabethtown members attend workshop

    The GFWC Kentucky Fourth District Summer Workshop was July 21 at the Brown-Pusey House in Elizabethtown. Members from six woman’s clubs throughout the area participated. Diane Willis, left, GFWC Kentucky governor of the fourth district, is pictured with GFWC Kentucky Presdient Peggy Barnes. The workshop covered information with guidelines for recommended special community projects to be used by the woman’s clubs. A lunch was prepared and served by Diane Willis and Debbie Jones, who are both members of the Woman’s Club of Elizabethtown.

  • Garden Club members participate in Hardin County Fair Flower Show

    The Garden Club of Elizabethtown presented the 2012 Hardin County Fair Flower Show beginning July 9.

    One hundred thirty-five entries were received from 33 contributors. Thirty-three percent were Garden Club members, and 33 percent of the ribbons were won by members. Fifty-seven percent of the blue ribbons were members’ entries.

    Thirty categories in horticulture included specimen varieties of roses, marigolds, zinnias, dahlias, daylilies, calla lilies, coneflowers, African Violets, herbs, succulents, cactus, ferns and other blooming plants.

  • McFarlins celebrate 67th anniversary

    Mac and Mai McFarlin of Vine Grove celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary Aug. 11, 2012.

    They were married Aug. 11, 1945, in Dickson County, Tenn.

    Illa "Mai" Deal McFarlin was born Jan. 11, 1929, in Tennessee. She moved to Kentucky in 1954 and resided in Hardin County — Fort Knox, Radcliff and Vine Grove — and retired from the Fort Knox school system. She is a cook, whose cakes are requested for community and church auctions.

  • Turners welcome Charles Leo

    Audis and Susan Turner of Glendale announce the birth of a son, Charles Leo Turner, on May 18, 2012, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He weighed 6 pounds, 3 ounces and was 18.5 inches long.

    Grandparents are Fred and Juanita Ramsey of Elizabethtown and Garnett and Hillery Turner of Big Clifty.

    Great-grandmother is Helen Newport of Elizabethtown.

    Jessica Ann Hart of Glendale and Chad Eric McGuffin of Cecilia were married June 23, 2012, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Cecilia with Father Chuck Walker officiating.

    The bride is the daughter of David O. and Virginia Ann Hart of Glendale.

    The groom is the son of Rodney and Kay McGuffin of Cecilia.

    The bride was given in marriage by her parents.

    Matron of honor was Kristy Gray and junior bridesmaid was Jaz Gray. Flower girl was Faith Yates.

    Best man was Todd McGuffin, brother of the groom.
