  • Target Masters On Target At The 2011 State Competition

    In a little more than 20 years, Kentucky’s 4-H Shooting Sports Education Program has grown to involve thousands of youth and adult volunteers statewide. Just recently more than 1013 4-H members participated in the state contest on Sept. 17 at the Bluegrass Sportsman’s Club in Wilmore with trap on Sept. 18 held at the Kentucky Wildlife Management Center in Berea. This event would not have been possible without the help of over 350 volunteers along with coaches and parents who supported the youth in their efforts.

  • Woman’s Club of Elizabethtown hosts Harvest Breakfast

    The annual Harvest Breakfast sponsored by The Woman’s Club of Elizabethtown was held Oct. 15. There was a large crowd that came and supported the club’s efforts to raise funds to give to community organizations. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Keith of Elizabethtown were the first to go through the food line and community citizens followed until the last slice of country ham, scrambled eggs, grits, apples, and biscuits were served at 11 a.m. Melanie Hibbard was chair of the event.

  • Ruggles participates in Lions All State Band

    At the  Sept. 9 meeting of the Elizabethtown Lions Club, PDG Lion Tony Bishop introduced a special guest, Audrey Ruggles, to the club. Audrey participated in the Lions All-State Band competetion at the International Convention in Seattle July 4-8. She plays flute in the Elizabethtown High School Band. She thanked the club for sponsoring her for the event which she said was most memorable. The Kentucky band placed second in the event and was asked to be flag bearers in the parade.

    This past week has been perfect weather for the farmers who have been busy long hours harvesting their grain. I noticed the headlights of a neighbors combine until about 10 o’clock the other night. It is amazing to us to see the progress made in farming, compared to that of our parents, and for some of us, ourselves, when everything was done with horse drawn implements.

    Mahlon and Ashley Cowan of Morgantown announce the birth of a son, Harrison Michael Cowan, on Sept. 2, 2011, in Bowling Green. He weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces and was 20 ½ inches long.

    Maternal grandparents are David Toczko of Elizabethtown and Connie and Randy Adkins of Big Clifty. Paternal grandparents are Mike and Carole Cowan of Morganfield.

    David Jr. and Amy Caswell of Elizabethtown announce the birth of a daughter, Isabella Juanita Cofer Caswell on Aug. 17, 2011, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She weighed 6 pounds, 1 ounce and was 18 inches long.

    Siblings are Jazmine Caswell, Summer Caswell and David Caswell III, all of Elizabethtown.

    Grandparents are Kay Givan, Mickey Givan, Helen Glasgow and Raymond Glasgow, all of Elizabethtown.

    Great-grandparents are Randall Carman and Juanita Carman, both of Rineyville and Mamie White of Hodgenville.

  • Parents welcome Cannon Nicholas

    Daniel and Stefanie Rock of Hodgenville announce the birth of a son, Cannon Nicholas Rock, on June 15, 2011, at Norton Suburban Hospital in Louisville. He weighed 6 pounds 5 ounces and was 19 inches long.

    Maternal grandparents are Jack and Bo Decker of Hodgenville.

    Paternal grandparents are Danny and Shirl Rock of Hodgenville and Dianna and Randy Hart of Elizabethtown.

    Paternal great-grandparent is Wanda Sparks of Hodgenville.
