    MY BIRTHDAY. I celebrated my birthday Dec. 27. It snowed the day I was born and it was snowing on this birthday. It didn’t last long enough to stick on the ground, but it was pretty coming down. I received a lot of texts and on Facebook from my friends wishing me a happy birthday.

    ROOK. Rook is played at 7 p.m. each Thursday at the Howevalley Vertrees Community building. Everyone is welcome.

    Students of Ann Case performed a Christmas recital for the residents of Taylor-Made Assisted Living on Dec. 16.   • Hall is Artist of the Month for December

    Mary Lou Hall was cho-sen as the Artist of the Month at the December meeting of the Central Kentucky Art Guild. Her painting is a watercolor titled “Red Wax and Candlelight.” The theme for the month was candlelight or unusual lighting. The next meeting is at 6:30 p.m. March 19 at Nolin RECC in Elizabethtown. Visitors always are welcome. There is a monthly art competition and program. The guild will not meet in January or February.

    Summer Ruley of Madisonville and James M. Tinnell of Bardstown announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.
    The bride-to-be is the daughter of Tommy and Beverly Basham of Madisonville, and the prospective groom is the son of Joseph and Betty Tinnell of Bardstown.
    The wedding is at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 29, 2012, at Pritchard Community Center in Elizabethtown at The 2012 News-Enterprise Bridal Showcase. A reception will follow at Best Western Atrium Gardens in Elizabethtown.
    All friends and relatives are invited to attend.

    Camille Leigh Medley and Adam Preston Wade, both of Louisville, announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.
    The bride-to-be is the daughter of Billy Joe Medley and Kathy Hutchison of Radcliff.  Her grandmother is Iva Powell and her stepmother is Brenda Medley. She is a 1990 graduate of North Hardin High School and a 1995 graduate of Murray State University. She received her master’s degree in 2001 and Rank I in 2008 from Western Kentucky University. She is a guidance counselor at Fern Creek Traditional High School in Louisville.

  • Parents announce birth of James Thomas Sherrard

    Tim and Kristen Sherrard of Mount Washington announce the birth of a son, James Thomas Sherrard, on Nov. 11, 2011, at Norton Suburban Hospital. He weighed 8 pounds, 9 ounces and was 21 inches long.
    The baby has two sisters, Jenna and Aly Sherrard.
    Maternal grandparents are Tom and Francie Kamer of LaGrange. Paternal grandparents are James C. and Carol Sherrard of Elizabethtown.
    Great-grandparents are Ida Hoskinson, the late David C. Hoskinson, the late James C. Sherrard, Chester and Margaret Brooks, and the late Mable Brooks.

  • Links celebrate 45th anniversary

    Leonard and Jane Link of White Mills celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary Dec. 30, 2011.
    Mr. Link is a retired salesman for Tom’s Snack Food, and Mrs. Link is retired from The Cecilian Bank. They attend White Mills Christian Church.
    They have one son, Marty Link, and one grandchild.
