    The wedding is March 9, 2013, at The Henry Clay in Louisville.

    Joseph “Pee Wee” Lucas and Gladys Strader Lucas of Youngers Creek will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary Feb. 28, 2013.

    They have two sons, Joe Lucas and Jamie Lucas; and three grandchildren.

    For the first time in my life, I picked a bouquet of jonquils, Easter flowers, this Tuesday morning in February. I had been hearing about others seeing the Easter flowers in bloom, but I hadn’t been on the end of our house, where ours were growing, so I imagine they had been in bloom perhaps for several days. Others hadn’t opened yet. This has been an odd year.

  • Haygood graduates from basic training

    HAYGOOD. Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Jameccia K. Haygood graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. A 2005 graduate of North Hardin High School, she earned an associate degree in 2011 from Elizabethtown Community and Technical College. She is the daughter of Darlean Poe of Vine Grove.

  • Rolling Thunder hosts chili cookoff

    The first chili cookoff sponsored by Rolling Thunder Inc. Kentucky Chapter Four was held Feb. 2 at Colvin Community Center in Radcliff.

    Fort Knox, Radcliff and Elizabethtown fire departments participated. During the event, a silent auction with items donated by various businesses and individuals made it a success. Items up for bid ranged from baked goods such as pies, cakes, king cakes and fudge to restaurant meals, to services from car dealerships and spa treatments.

    Meals were provided for a small donation.

  • Mraz returns from overseas deployment

    MRAZ. Army 1st Lt. Matthew S. Mraz has returned to the U.S. after being deployed overseas at a forward operating base to serve in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Mraz is an infantry officer assigned to the 4th Airborne Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. He has served in the military for six years. A 2006 graduate of Highland High School in Pocatello, Ind., he earned a bachelor’s degree in 2010 from Idaho State University in Pocatello. He is the son of Kathy Mraz of Pocatello and Jerry Mraz of Elizabethtown.

  • Rogers graduates from basic combat training

    ROGERS. Army Pvt. Ashley J. Rogers has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. A 2004 graduate of Fairdale High School, she is the daughter of Michael Rogers of Vine Grove and the granddaughter of Robert Millay of Shivley.
