  • Baumgardner speaks to Radcliff Rotary

    Rotary District 6710 Governor Rick Baumgardner paid the annual “governor’s visit” to the Radcliff Rotary Club recently. He met with the club’s officers to discuss plans for the coming Rotary year, then addressed the club as a whole during the regular Thursday noon meeting. The governor’s subject was the spirit of Rotary – “Service above self.” His remarks were designed for each member to ask him or herself, “Am I truly a Rotarian, or just a member of a club?”

    Doug and Pam Fields of Upton announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Joni Maria Fields, to Allen Thomas Brooks, son of Chris and Tessa Brooks of Mammoth Cave.

    The bride-to-be is a 2009 graduate of Hart County High School. She is the granddaughter of Ronnie Fields of Upton, Marion and Shirley Riggs of Clarkson and the late Goldie Fields.

    The prospective groom is a 2010 graduate of Edmonson County High School. He is the grandson of Ronnie and Jay Brooks of Mammoth Cave and Norvella Copelin of Upton and the late T.W. Copelin.

    Harold and Mimi Milby of Louisville announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Mechelle Lauren Milby, to Bradley Joseph Schindler of Borden, Ind., son of James and Barbara Schindler of Starlight, Ind.

    The wedding is Sept. 3, 2011, in Louisville.

    Ron Ayers and Tiffany Willis announce the birth of twin daughters, Riley Abrianna Ayers and Reagan Alexandria Ayers, on April 20, 2011, at Norton Hospital in Louisville. Riley weighed 5 pounds, 15 ounces, and Reagan weighed 6 pounds, 2 ounces.

    Steve and Ellen Montgomery of Elizabethtown announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their son, Stephen M. Montgomery of Nashville, Tenn., to Cheryl A. Nichols of Nashville.

    The bride-to-be is the daughter of G. Buddy and Patsy J. Nichols of Searcy, Ark. She is a 1999 graduate of Jonesboro High School in Arkansas, a 2003 graduate of Vanderbilt University and a 2006 graduate of University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville. She is an attorney with Shuttleworth Williams PLLC.

    The bride-to-be is a 2008 graduate of Central Hardin High School. She is the daughter of Joby Auker of Elizabethtown and Donna Auker of Cecilia.

    The prospective groom is a 2004 graduate of Central Hardin High School and a 2008 graduate of Berea College with a Bachelor of Science in business administration. He is the son of Tammy Walters of Elizabethtown and Glen Walters of Irvington.

  • Lewises celebrate 65th wedding anniversary

    Harold and Aline Lewis celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary recently with their children in Savannah, Ga.

    They were married Aug. 2, 1946, at Cecilia Methodist Parsonage where they still attend church.

    Mr. Lewis operates Cecilia Tractor Service.

    Mrs. Lewis is retired from Fort Knox.

    They have three children, Janet Heit, Linda Pence and Marshall Lewis; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

  • Hardin County Senior Republican Women present scholarship

    The Hardin County Senior Republican Women's Forum (HCSRWF) met July 31 at Ryan's Steakhouse in Elizabethtown. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of a $500 scholarship to Meghan De Amaral, a graduate of Fort Knox High School who plans to attend Texas A&M University this fall, majoring in political science and pre-law. After the scholarship presentation, a business meeting was held.  The next meeting is at 5 p.m. Aug. 18 at Ryan's Steakhouse in Elizabethtown.  For more information, call Alice Pelkey at 769-1464.
