    QUILT RAFFLE. The Lakewood Parent Teacher Team has a beautiful sunflower quilt for which they are taking donations. The quilt will fit a queen-sized bed, and its dimensions are 52-inches by 120 inches. It is on display in the cabinet by the main entrance to the gymnasium. Donations are $1 for one ticket or $5 for six tickets. The winner of the quilt will be announced prior to winter break. All proceeds from the quilt will be used for students at Lakewood Elementary School.

    SCHOOL NEWS. School will be out Nov. 23 through 27. That makes for a good five-day break.

    Lakewood is having a few fundraisers for the kids. Spirit Night at Mr. Gatti’s is from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 13, a voucher is required. These vouchers will be sent home with Lakewood students or you can acquire them from the counter at Mr. Gatti’s.

    Michael Bewley of Danville and Cathy Yates of Rineyville announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Michelle Hilary Bewley, to Sonnie Antoine Elliott, son of Sam Smith and Rosie Elliott.

    The bride-to-be is a graduate of the University of Louisville School of Business. She is a buyer at Akebono in Elizabethtown.

    The prospective groom also is employed by Akebono.

    The wedding is at 1 p.m. Dec. 3, 2011 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with a reception immediately following at the Parish Hall.

  • Workmans celebrate 50th wedding anniversary

    Jimmie and Julia Workman will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house given by their daughter, Lee Ann Thomas, and grandchildren, Brooke Hudspeth and Brandon Hicks, from 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 27, 2011, at Immanuel Baptist Church.

    They were married, Dec. 15, 1961 by Brother O’Ray Weeks at his home in Louisa.

    Mr. Workman retired from Raytheon Corporation where he was an iron worker.

    Mrs. Workman retired from PNC Bank, formerly First Hardin National Bank, and Kentuckiana Girl Scouts.

    Tim and Laurie Goblirsch announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Sara Elizabeth Goblirsch, to Matthew John Campbell.

    The bride-to-be is a 2004 graduate of Elizabethtown High School and a 2008 graduate of Bellarmine University. She received her Master of Science in genetic counseling at Northwestern University and is employed at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

    Louie and Muriel Peters will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at 7 p.m. Nov. 25, 2011, at Open Valley Missionary Baptist Church.

    They were married Nov. 30, 1961 by the Rev. Chelf at Franklin Crossroads Baptist Church.

    All friends and relatives are invited to attend.

    No formal invitations will be sent.

    Charles E. “Eddie” and Geraldine “Deanie” Bryant Thompson of Cecilia celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Nov. 18, 2011.

    They were married Nov. 18, 1961 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Cecilia.

    Mr. Thompson is retired from civil service, a retired farmer and is a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church.

    Mrs. Thompson is a homemaker and member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church.

    Robin Dale and Martha Ann Gibson Riggs celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Nov. 14, 2011.

    They have five children, Michael Dale Riggs, Matthew Scott Riggs, Thomas Wayne Riggs, Robert Andrew Riggs and Maria Ann Riggs; and two grandchildren.
