  • FAITH students get biology lessons

    Biology students of FAITH Home School Academics recently visited the home of Joyce and John Effinger to participate in an on-site study of the ecology of ponds.

    Mrs. Effinger welcomed both classes and gave them history of the pond on their property. She named the plants in the pond and the surrounding area and explained how the pond was maintained and kept healthy. Their biology teacher Sherry Webber then gave the high school students specific tasks to complete during this session.

  • Clear speaks to Radcliff Optimist Club members

    Gina Clear, left, was presented a Certificate of Appreciation by Optimist Club of Radcliff president-elect Mae Knight. Clear spoke to the club Aug. 9 about her internship with The News-Enterprise. She also talked about her journalism class at North Hardin High School, along with the school yearbook and newspaper productions.

  • Sallengs celebrates 90th birthday

    Evelyn Sallengs, who is 90 years old today, Sept. 9, 2011, celebrated her birthday Saturday at the home of her daughter with 50 family members and friends.
    She is a resident of Ce-cilia and a member of Cecilia Baptist Church. She has been married to Hershel Sallengs for 12 years.
    She has four children, Sue Thompson of Glen-dale, Wayne Richardson of Cartersville, Ga., Sandi Stiles of Elizabethtown and Bruce Richardson of Perryville; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

  • Warm Blessing receives donation from Christ Episcopal Church

    Jesse Waltz, right, of Christ Episcopal Church, presents a contribution from the church outreach program to Warm Blessings Soup Kitchen treasurer Diane Panknin. Warm Blessings, 609 E. Dixie Hwy., Elizabethtown, serves a hot meal each weeknight at 5:30 to 50 or more individuals and families.   • Roos speaks to Radcliff Rotary Club members

    Guest speaker at a recent Radcliff Rotary Club meeting was Devin Roos, community relations and development manager for the Greater Kentucky and Southern Indiana chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. Her presentation made club members aware of the surprising statistics concerning this disease and it’s impact on people worldwide. The Association provides services to the more than 80,000 individuals and their families in our area afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease. For information, visit www.alz.org/kyin/

  • Radcliff Woman’s Club members participate in community yard sale

    The Radcliff Woman’s Club took part in the Radcliff Community Yard Sale on Aug. 27 in the Radcliff City Hall parking lot.
    Members who helped man the booth at various times were Becky Brecht, Kathy Eubans, Barb Hayes, Pat Nuccitelli, Mary Haddix, Sheila Enyart, Emma Rosenkrantz, Maria Batistoni, Carlo Triplett, Patricia Crosby and Florence Mason.  On sale were miscellaneous items to include books, pictures, tablecloths, rugs, glasses, dishes and bookends. Coordinator of the yard sale was Becky Brecht.

  • Grays celebrate 50th wedding anniversary

    Ruby Campbell and Chester “Fuzz” Gray of White Mills will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a renewal of their vows and a reception at 7 p.m., Sept. 9, 2011, at Pritchard Community Center.

    They were married Sept. 7, 1961, in Celina, Tenn.

    Mr. Gray is retired from auto sales.

    Mrs. Gray is retired from Gates Rubber Co. and is employed at Stone Hearth Restaurant.

    They have two children, Tim Gray of Elizabethtown and Tracy Carby of Stephensburg; and three grandchildren.
