  • Hindman to participate in Scholarship and Recognition Program

    Meagan Hindman, daughter of Frank and Doris Hindman of Flaherty, has been selected as a finalist in the Pre-Teen Kentucky Scholarship and Recognition Program to be held on July 1-3 at the Hyatt Regency in Lexington. Her sponsors include the Lusk Group Inc., G&L properties, Tony Brown Chevrolet and Blazer’s Fun Zone.

  • Elizabethtown Woman's Club members participate in parade

    The Woman’s Club of Elizabethtown was represented at the Heartland Festival parade June 4. Past president Diane Willis and President Martha Mengel represented the club in a red corvette.

  • Youth Leadership Class has graduation

    The 2010-11 Hardin County Youth Leadership Class held its graduation at the May Hardin County Chamber luncheon. First Federal Savings Bank sponsored the graduation along with the Hardin County Chamber.
    Keith Johnson from First Federal Savings Bank served as the MC for the graduation. Darian Ditto, one of the HCYL students, spoke about the Youth Leadership classes.

  • Kelley installed as president of EHLRTA

    William “Bill” Kelley was installed as president of Elizabethtown Hardin LaRue Retired Teachers’ Association on May 19. Joining Kelley in leadership positions are Lin Linder, president-elect; Ramona Jeffries, vice-president; Joy Carroll Miller, treasurer; Susan Cross, secretary; and Donna Carter is immediate past-president.

  • Helmwood Heights students place in junior golf tournament

    HELMWOOD HEIGHTS STUDENTS
     PLACE IN JUNIOR GOLF TOUR
    Tyler Ates, 7, right, and Patrick Carter, 8, students at Helmwood Heights Elementary School, joined the ranks of the Pepsi Junior Golf Tour and completed their first tournament at Long Run Golf Course in Louisville on June 3. While competing with young golfers from across the state, Tyler placed ninth and Patrick placed 11th in their first 6-hole golf tournament.

    Sylvia McCarty, district agent for Modern Woodmen of America presents a matching fund check for $4,643.20 to Lisa Wilson for a spaghetti dinner and auction at Big Clifty Community Center on May 6 to benefit Mary Bradley, who needs a lung transplant.

  • Wallaces celebrate 60th anniversary

    William J. and Shirley Wallace of Elizabethtown will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on June 16, 2011.
    They were married June 16, 1951, at Walnut Street Baptist Church in Louisville.
    They have two children, Debbie Henderson and Susie Toy, both of Elizabethtown; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

    The Rev. and Mrs. Herb Williams of Elizabethtown announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Hannah Williams of Elizabethtown, to Craig Waisbrot of Elizabethtown.

    The bride-to-be is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in social work at the University of Louisville’s Kent School of Social Work, and is continuing her education to become a licensed clinical social worker.

    Taylor and Ethan Jones of Rineyville announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their father, Jason Jones of Rineyville, to Kim Marski of Elizabethtown.

    The bride-to-be is the daughter of Will and Clara Helms of Vine Grove. She is a graduate of North Hardin High School and is employed at the county clerk’s office in Elizabethtown.

    The prospective groom is the son of Darrell Jones of Cecilia and Linda Jones of Elizabethtown. He is a graduate of Central Hardin High School and is employed at Resp-A-Care in Elizabethtown.

  • Peyton welcomes Gracyn Bailee

    Peyton Singer of Elizabethtown announces the birth of a sister, Gracyn Bailee Singer on May 1, 2011, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She weighed 7 pounds, 1½ ounces and was 18¾ inches long.

    Parents are Andy and Carrie Singer of Elizabethtown.

    Grandparents are Rick and Vicky Woods of Elizabethtown and Bruce and Pat Singer of Cecilia.

    Great-grandmothers are Kathleen Woods of Louisville and Virginia Skees of Cecilia.
