    MAY. The rain has finally slowed down, but many roads still have water over them causing them to be blocked off.  Fields and yards along the roadways still have water close to the roads causing caution whenever it starts raining.

    THANKS. My family and I are very appreciative of all that was done for me on my 90th birthday last Sunday. The calls, gifts, flowers and many cards were so appreciated. We had several family members and friends who attended. It was so good to see Henry and Ramona Cook of California who are in Kentucky visiting family and friends. Toby Smothers, who will be 92 on May 18, was also able to come help me celebrate.

    Donnie and Debbie Dunn of Elizabethtown announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their son, Daniel Dunn of Elizabethtown to Ashlyn Bidwell of Elizabethtown.

    The bride-to-be is the daughter of Frank and Cherly Bidwell of Lexington and Margaret Araiva of Elizabethtown.

    The wedding is at 2:30 p.m., May 22, 2011, at the home of Debbie and Donnie Dunn with a reception to follow.

    All friends and relatives are invited to attend.

    NARFE Chapter 1050 of Elizabethtown met on May 2 to enjoy the quarterly pot luck and to hear the updates from the State Convention and National Legislative issues. Old and new members alike were welcomed by chapter president Kay Bennett.

    John Hardin High School Cadet Staff Sergeant Lydia Loehmer was recently presented the National Defense Committee JROTC Certificate of Honor Award along with an accompanying pin and medal for Patriotism by Winnie Townsend Awards Chair Captain Jacob Van Meter Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

  • Woman’s Club of Elizabehtown installs officers at May meeting

    The Woman’s Club of Elizabethtown met May 6 at Stone Hearth Restaurant. Many of the ladies were dressed ready for the Oaks in their Derby hats and outfits. The private dining room was decorated with a Derby theme by hostesses Mitzi Crowe, Betty McQuown, Jane Curneal, and JoAnn Winkenhofer. Nora Sweat presented the devotional on the theme of Mother’s Day.
