  • Auxiliary honors veterans with special dinner and program

    The Ladies of the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 148 in West Point, held its annual Veterans Day Program on Nov. 12.
    The night started with a program by Patsy Chatman and Linda Drummond. Amanda Walker sang “God Bless America.” The program was followed by a balloon release and a free spaghetti dinner.

    Dana Elyse Daughetee of Somerset and Stephen Jay Fohl of Elizabethtown were married Sept. 17, 2011, at Oak Hill Baptist Church in Somerset.

    The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Robin Daughetee of Somerset.

    The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry J. Fohl of Elizabethtown.

    The couple reside in Lexington.

  • Covells celebrate 60th wedding anniversary

    Paul and Kathleen Covell  celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Nov. 18, 2011.

    They were married Nov. 18, 1951, at Calvary Methodist Church in Fredrick, Md., by the Rev. Edward A. Godsey.

    They have five children, 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

        Well, I do have to say that I wish the rain were a little bit of snow. Everything is beginning to look a little blah. The snow would have made everything look so clean.
       The biggest shopping day of the year is this week. I know I am excited. I hope everyone gets everything on their list. Before that though, is Thanksgiving, which is not my favorite holiday, but I wish a happy day for all of you.

    QUILT RAFFLE. The Lakewood Parent Teacher Team has a beautiful sunflower quilt for which they are taking donations. The quilt will fit a queen-sized bed, and its dimensions are 52-inches by 120 inches. It is on display in the cabinet by the main entrance to the gymnasium. Donations are $1 for one ticket or $5 for six tickets. The winner of the quilt will be announced prior to winter break. All proceeds from the quilt will be used for students at Lakewood Elementary School.

    SCHOOL NEWS. School will be out Nov. 23 through 27. That makes for a good five-day break.

    Lakewood is having a few fundraisers for the kids. Spirit Night at Mr. Gatti’s is from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 13, a voucher is required. These vouchers will be sent home with Lakewood students or you can acquire them from the counter at Mr. Gatti’s.
