The work of local artist Joe Cecil is on display at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College’s Morrison Gallery for a solo art exhibition entitled “Viking Gods Evoked.”

The exhibit features oil paintings depicting figures in Norse mythology, including Thor, Idun, Odin and Hel.

The exhibit is inspired by Cecil’s Danish ancestry and the pieces are designed to give a realistic and human depiction of Norse mythological figures. Cecil holds a masters of arts in painting and ceramics from Ball State University and is in the process of completing a masters of fine arts from the Academy of Art University, San Fransisco. Cecil is an art instructor at Lakewood Elementary School in Cecilia.

A reception for the exhibit is from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday. The event is free and open to the public. The exhibit remains at Morrison Gallery through Nov. 30.
