  • HCP to hold auditions for "Sordid Lives"

    Auditions for the upcoming Hardin County Playhouse production of “Sordid Lives” are at 6:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Plum Alley Theater in the Historic State Theater in Elizabethtown.

    The adults-only play needs to fill roles for five men and six women, all 30 to 50 years old, and one man in his mid-20s. The comedy contains strong language/situations and requires deep southern accents.

    Those auditioning will read from a script with other actors. Advance preparation is not required.

    Rehearsals begin in 2013.

  • Bridge Community presents Christmas concert, art exhibit

    The Bridge Community presents its 6th performance of “Behold the Lamb of God: The True Tall Tale of the Coming of Christ” at 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

    It is a singer-songwriter-style concert written by Andrew Peterson that tells the tale of the anticipation and arrival of Jesus in Bethlehem, said worship and arts pastor Matt Black.

    The style of the concert mixes folk, bluegrass, country and rock, he said.

  • Glen Rice performs Sunday in Hodgenville

    Glen Rice and friends will offer Christmas entertainment at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Hodgenville Civic Center.

    Rice performs traditional and gospel Christmas favorites and some original music in “Christmas at the Center: A Lost and Found Christmas.”

    Other musicians include Amber Martin, Pat Portman, Roger Conley, Camille Turner, Ron Benningfield, Eddie Black, Ricky Puckett, Glenn Williams and Lou Bingham.

    Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Doors open at 2 p.m.

  • HCP production fulfills dreams, provides roles well-suited to actors

    Dream interpretation is part of the plot of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”

    Dream realization is a fringe benefit for the actor playing the title role in the Hardin County Playhouse production, and the play provides other actors special opportunities as well.

    Ben D’Amico, 17, landed the title role after a last-minute decision to audition. Winning the role fulfilled a dream he had since he was 13.

  • 'Nutcracker' keeps dancers on their toes

    For 35 years, the Dance Centre of Elizabethtown has presented “The Nutcracker” to audiences young and old.

    Sherry Barnard, owner, has experienced the joy of “The Nutcracker” for all 35 years. Waverly Williams, 14, has been dancing for 11 years and this year plays Clara, the lead role.

    The ballet centers around Clara’s adventure in the magical world of the Nutcracker Prince.

  • 'Life of Pi' doesn't live up to hype

    “Life of Pi,” based on the best-selling novel by Yann Martel, is a beautiful spectacle of cinematic art but fantastic elements disconnect the audience from the story.

    The story, as Pi Patel tells it to a writer, documents his life leading up to and including becoming the only survivor of a shipwreck.

  • Concert series to feature Antsy McClain at the PAC

    Antsy McClain and the Trailer Park Troubadours will perform in concert Saturday as part of Acoustic Guitar Masters Concert Series 13 at Hardin County Schools Performing Arts Center.

    The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

    McClain is a singer and songwriter who infuses his material with humor and stages his shows from a fictional trailer park called Pine View Heights. He modeled the location after his childhood surroundings and experiences.

  • Introvert Chism uses art to express herself

    Jessica Chism, 32, always has been involved in artistic and creative endeavors, but didn’t put brush to canvas until about five years ago.
    Now, inspired by nature and movies, she uses painting to relieve stress and express herself, which is hard for the self-professed introvert.

    She has sketched since she was a little girl but learned she could paint after helping with a SpongeBob SquarePants mural in her son’s room. After discovering painting, within six months she completed about 30 portraits, she said.
