  • The Barbarians are coming

    It seems barbarians invaded parts of Meade and Hardin counties. But have no fear, it’s a film crew shooting the “Brothers Barbarian” Web series.

    The crew recently shot season two of the series in places such as Doe Run Inn and Saunders Springs.

    “The first season was pushed out through YouTube, Blip TV and several other channels,” said Tim Gooch, co-creator, director and co-star.

    Total views were approaching 100,000 as of this week.

  • Best-selling author to visit Fort Knox library today

    Jen Lancaster, a New York Times bestselling author, appears at 6:30 p.m. today at Barr Memorial Library in Fort Knox.

    Lancaster has sold more than 1 million books including “Bitter is the New Black,” “Such a Pretty Fat,” “Pretty in Plaid” and “My Fair Lazy.”

    Other works by Lancaster include the novel “If You Were Here” and the memoir “Jeneration X.”

    A little girl often thinks her daddy is the most amazing man on the planet. She looks to him for advice, protection, guidance and what team to follow in sports.

    My dad was the most amazing man on the planet. He was the strongest man I ever knew in both physical strength and in his faith.

    I lost him this month to a farming accident. I cannot even explain the hole his absence has left but I can tell you a little bit about the man I called Daddy.

  • HCP seeks large cast for 'Joseph'

    Hardin County Playhouse will hold auditions for “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” at 6:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Plum Alley Theater in the Historic State Theater in Elizabethtown.

    Rock, calypso, country and Broadway-style numbers are included in the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical based on the Bible story of Joseph of Canaan.

    Participants will be asked to sing a short selection of a song from the show. All materials are provided and advance preparation is not required.

  • Christian artists bring acoustic show to E'town

    Two standouts in Christian contemporary music will bring an acoustic show to The Historic State Theater in Elizabethtown tonight.

    An Acoustic Evening with Jason Gray and Todd Agnew Tour launched in September, said spokeswoman Janet Bozeman.

    “Not only is it going to be great musically … it is going to be so entertaining,” she said, noting both musicians have a flair for comedy.

    Mortimer Brewster, a New York drama critic, gets engaged and then finds out his two sweet aunts are murdering lonely old men by serving them elderberry wind laced with arsenic, an act of mercy, they say.

    Brewster tries to deal with this news and questions the sanity of his entire family in the mad capped comedy “Arsenic and Old Lace.”

    The classic dark comedy begins showing at the Hardin County Playhouse this weekend.
