  • '50s the focus of Rough River events

    Dig out those poodle skirts and leather jackets, and get ready cruise into some fun as Rough River Dam State Resort Park and Pine Knob Theater offer visitors “Nifty 50s Weekend” on March 18-19.

    The event kicks off with dinner theater March 18 as Pine Knob Theater presents “Daddy Took the T-Bird Away.” The musical features '50s music.

    Dinner begins at 5:30 p.m. with the musical beginning at 7:30 p.m..

    On March 19, The Countdowns will provide music for the Saturday Night Sock Hop. The dance begins at 8 p.m.

  • My Kitchen, Your Recipe: Kielbasa and cabbage

    This week we have another recipe from Jerianne Strange of Elizabethtown, and it’s another very tasty, very easy, very quick-to-prepare dish.

    Jerianne says her family really likes kielbasa. Her daughter, like Jerianne, loves cabbage. Her son, on the other hand, will not eat cabbage, “no way, no how, no matter what!” So I guess he snacks on something else on the nights they have this kielbasa and cabbage dish.

  • Community choir celebrates 10 years

    Its members are preparing to celebrate 10 years, but the genesis of The Elizabethtown Area Sacred Community Choir technically goes back more than a decade to 1999, when the Israel-Palestinian conflict grabbed the attention of Sida Roberts.

    About that time, Roberts read about a cantata written for healing of the nations and knew it needed to be part of a local service. She began contacting the music directors at various churches in the community to form a collaborative effort, leading to the creation of the choir's board of directors in 2001.

  • Cory Baker, aka CPaper, is on a mission for success

    Corey Baker, rapping as CPaper Da Leprechaun, is hoping his lucky-sounding name will help him find success on the Kentucky and national hip-hop scenes.

    Baker is an Army brat, born in Fort Sill, Okla., he said, but has spent most of his life in Radcliff. His childhood days were filled with skateboarding, playing video games and colleting Pokemon and Digimon cards.

    Elizabethtown photographer David Toczko’s book of photography won a prestigious advertising award.

    The American Advertising Federation Tri-State Advertising and Marketing Professionals distribute the regional ADDY Awards. Toczko’s book, “Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill: 50th Anniversary of the Restoration,” received a Bronze ADDY for Collateral Material.

    Italian-born guitarist Peppino D'Agostino will be featured Saturday as a part of Trinity Music Productions Guitar Masters Series 11.

    After moving to America, D'Agostino lived in California for many years and performs around the world. He’s not only a guitarist but also a composer, singer, teacher, entertainer, arranger and collaborator. He often sings in both English and Italian.

  • His majesty's birthday

    The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is described by the American Kennel Club as “low-set, strong, sturdily built and active, giving an impression of substance and stamina in a small space.”

    Their height is between 10 and 12 inches and they don’t have much of a tail.

    The AKC goes on to say their outlook is bold but kindly, the expression is intelligent and interested and the Corgi is never shy or vicious.
