  • Children abound in HCP's Christmas production

An old adage warns actors should never work with children or animals. When Hardin County Playhouse presents their production of “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” today through Sunday and Dec. 12 through 15, there will be plenty of the former on stage.

“This is definitely a kid-centered show,” director Bo Cecil said.

“The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” is double-cast with about 90 actors, most of whom are children, Cecil said. Actors ranging in age from 5 to 21 fill the roles of children.

  • Elf on the Shelf brings Christmas joy or complete paranoia

It’s that time of year again. My Facebook timeline is flooded with photos of creepy elves doing creepy things in creepy locations. In other words, the Elf on the Shelf is back.

I am totally weirded out by this little fellow and would have been as a child as well. I was the type of kid who was scared of marionettes and the giant Raggedy Ann doll in my bedroom. Who am I kidding? Those two things would creep me out today.

  • Things I'm not thankful for

Every year for some weeks leading right up to this very day, sentiments turn to acknowledging those things in our lives we are thankful for.

We extol the virtues of family, loved ones, health, employment, food, shelter and, well, virtues.

Social media is bombarded daily with posts from people outlining what they are thankful for and, more often than not, why. As far as I’m concerned it’s good to reflect on those things every so often.

  • Area dancers to perform at Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
  • 'Frozen' won't leave you cold this holiday season

Rated PG for some action and mild rude humor.
    Release date: Nov. 27
    Runtime: 108 minutes
Rating: A fun time at the movies

Walt Disney’s “Frozen” is a cute and funny film but is nothing like the Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale “The Snow Queen” it supposedly is based on. But then again, “Tangled” wasn’t much like the Grimm fairy tale either and it still was a cute film.
