  • 'Groundhog Day' at the State

    If you’ve ever had the feeling of déjà vu over and over again then you know what it’s like to be Bill Murray in “Groundhog Day.”

    The Historic State Theater in Elizabethtown will show the film at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday.

    In the comedy, Murray plays a weatherman covering Punxsutawney Phil and his famous shadow. Murray winds up reliving the same day over and over, learning a little about himself along the way.

    Andie MacDowell also stars in the film.

  • Renowned guitarist offers workshops

    Aspiring guitarists or those who just want to tune up their craft have an opportunity to attend workshops by musician Tommy Emmanuel on Feb. 16 and 17 at Hardin County Schools Performing Arts Center.

    The workshops are at 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 16 and 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 17.

    Each workshop costs $90.

    A free jazz concert is at noon Tuesday at Morrison Gallery at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College.

    Presented by the ECTC Fine Art Series, the concert features the Jamey Aebersold Jazz Quartet. The quartet consists of Jamey Aebersold, saxophone; Steve Crews, piano; Tyrone Wheeler, bass; and Jonathan Higgins, drums.

    It’s the story of a young princess, a septet of dwarfs, an apple, a nap and a handsome prince, or so the story goes.

    Tonight and Saturday, Missoula Children’s Theatre and local children present “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” at the Hardin County Schools Performing Arts Center at John Hardin High School.

    This is the troupe’s 10th event at the PAC in nine years.

  • Inspirational subjects provide valuable insights

    A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

    Not too long ago I typed, as near as I could remember it, that quote from Chinese philosopher Lao-tzu on the Facebook wall of a friend. She had announced she had made it through her first day back at work, after taking leave to attend to the medical needs of her son.

    I offered the quote as a sort of acknowledgement of support and encouragement.

    I’ve always admired that quote.

  • There is a silver lining for this playbook

    Sometimes a movie surprises you and “Silver Linings Playbook” did that for me. It is deserving of the award nominations and wins it has received.

    I was hesitant because I wasn’t sure Mr. Hangover Bradley Cooper could pull off the performance I had heard so much about, but he did. Also, I’m not a fan of strong language in films, and this has a bushel full, but the story pulls you in.

  • Fort Knox gospel concert to kick off national tour

    An ensemble of gospel and Christian music artists will perform Monday at Fort Knox when the United As One Tour arrives at the Waybur Theater.

    “We’re the first tour stop,” said Mark Wicker, Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation chief of community recreation division.

    Wicker noted the kick-off concert falls on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The concert is open to the public.
