This week’s adventure is the story of a recipe gone wrong but joyfully salvaged because adding ice cream on top of any baking mishap makes it all turn out well in the end.

A few weeks ago, I ran across a recipe for hot fudge pie. The photo looked delicious and the instructions were relatively simple so I printed it out to try sometime. With the words hot fudge in the title it was a no-brainer to clip and save.

Sunday, it’s the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens in the Super Bowl at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.

Many of you will be entertaining whether you routinely watch football or not, and others of you will find yourselves in a crowded family room, eating great food before the game or during halftime.

The halftime festivities are so entertaining that you might prefer to eat before the game, followed by nibbling from the coffee table during the game and especially at halftime.

An employee at Jeff's Prescription Shop gave me a couple cake recipes, which are more dense cakes because of the addition of instant pudding, but still very moist.

The Whiskey Cake is made just like a Rum Cake recipe I have except she uses whiskey. The Chocolate Surprise is one I want to try.

Winter is officially under way, that is, as of Dec. 21. When the threat of snow is forecast everyone starts thinking about having soup on hand for family dinners through the long cold months.

While writing my cookbook, the publisher let me know that it was too long, especially the cake chapter — imagine that. As I shortened the cake chapter, I also had to cut the soup chapter completely, but today I have some recipes from Taste of Home and Family Circle magazines and some I found on the Internet that sound tasty.
