    I am home safe and sound. At least, I will be until about 1 p.m. today, and then I am off again to Child Evangelism Fellowship International Headquarters with several members of our church and many teenagers who want to do volunteer missionary work. Kenny gets to be a bachelor again for another week.

    KENTUCKYWEATHER. Looks like old man winter isn’t done with us yet. We had another snowfall this past week and the temperatures got really cold again. But it didn’t take long for the sunshine to come out and melt the snow away. Spring might officially be here by the calendar but it sure doesn’t feel like it.

  • John Wimsatt Jr. and Doreena Adams, both of Elizabethtown, announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Xena Wimsatt, to Neal Simmons Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Simmons of Elizabethtown.

    The bride-to-be attended John Hardin High School and Central Hardin High School.

    The prospective groom attended Central Hardin High School.

    The wedding is at noon April 12, 2014, at 192 2nd St., Elizabethtown. A reception follows at the same location.

  • John P. and Nora Downs Bowles of Elizabethtown will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on April 4, 2014.

    They were married April 4, 1964, at St. George Church in Louisville by the Rev. Luckett.

    Mr. Bowles is a tool and die maker and a farmer.

    Mrs. Bowles was a teachers’ aide at Morningside Elementary School for 17 years.

    They have four children, Kevin Bowles, Elaine Mink, Theresa Conder and John R. Bowles, all of Elizabethtown; and 11 grandchildren.
