  • Members the Garden Club of Elizabethtown visit Allegro Assisted Living. Every spring, club members and residents plant containers of colorful flowers to decorate the patio/balcony of residents. After the planting was done, residents and club members enjoyed chatting while snacking on food provided by Allegro’s cooks. Guests are welcome at the meetings at 10 a.m. the first Thursday of each month in the ballroom of the Brown-Pusey House.

  • Memorial Day is a special time for members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10281 and the Ladies Auxiliary. To prepare for the day, Ladies Auxiliary members Renate Jordan, Diane Egan, Andrea Dustin and Carol Hill placed flags on graves in two cemeteries in Vine Grove, and VFW members placed them in Hardin Memorial Cemetery in Radcliff. Butch and Debbie Ferrell honored veterans in the Stovall Church Cemetery with flags.

  • Taylorsville native J.D. Shelburne returns to Elizabethtown for a concert that begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Historic State Theater in Elizabethtown.

    “I have added a lot of new fans in the area and plus Taylorsville really isn’t that far away to bring more,” Shelburne said. “I am really excited to come back home and share my journey in song at one of the state’s most historic theaters.”

    Shelburne said audiences can expect a “laid back, storytelling acoustic show.”

  • An unplanned teachng assignment may have temporarily detoured him from the path of history and photography, but Elvin Smith Jr. found his way back soon enough.

    A 1960 graduate of Rineyville High School, Smith attended Western Kentucky University where he majored in elementary education with a minor in physical education. He graduated in 1965 and earned a master’s degree in 1967.

    Smith began his 30-year career as a teacher at Maceo Elementary School in Daviess County.

    “I was supposed to teach science and history,” Smith said.

  • Craig and Melissa Woosley of Leitchfield and Dalton and Carla Bragg of Edmonton, announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their children, Devon Craig Woosley and Dana Beth Bragg.
    The bride-to-be is a 2010 graduate of Metcalfe County High School and has obtained a medical assistant’s degree from Daymar College. She is the granddaughter of Carlon and Burlene Fields of Upton, and the late Onell and Maxine Bragg.
