  • AUSA-Fort Knox Chapter President Ed Snyder, left, presents a donation to Hooray for Heroes Chairman Randy Acton. Hooray for Heroes is an annual festival held on Armed Forces Day to recognize and celebrate military heroes and emergency personnel both past and present. Hooray for Heroes 2013 is May 18 in Radcliff.

  • REEDER. Air Force Airman 1st Class John R. Reeder graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. A 2006 graduate of Fort Knox High School, he earned a bachelor’s degree in 2010 from Transylvania University. He is the son of Lisa and John Reeder Sr. of Cadiz.

  • COX. Navy Seaman Robert D. Cox, son of Meredith M. Cox of Magnolia and Robert E. Cox of Sample, recently was promoted to his current rank upon graduation from recruit training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.  Cox received the early promotion for outstanding performance during all phases of the training cycle. He is a 2012 graduate of Breckinridge County High School.

  • JENNINGS. Johnathon M. Jennings, a 2012 graduate of Central Hardin High School and the son of Fran M. Hampton and grandson of Diana Blackson, graduated from basic training Feb. 14, at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

  • CHANDLER. Army National Guard Pvt. Johannes S. Chandler has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. A 2010 graduate of Westfield Senior High School, he is the brother of David Chandler of Radcliff.

  • Dr. Ric Bessin, UK Entomology professor, presented a program about beneficial insects in the garden at the March 7 meeting of the Garden Club of Elizabethtown. Bessin is welcomed by Deborah Weise, left, co-president, and Andrea McWright, program chairwoman. The next meeting is April 4 and the program is about invasive plants in your yard.

  • Today’s Recipe Roundup has some real winners.

    Fellow members of the Cecilia Homemakers gave me the the Breakfast Cookies and Cherry Dump Cake recipes. A former student, Phylis Taul Pendleton, shared the Breakfast Cookies by way of her mother, JoAnn. And I have a recipe for the most delicious dump cake from Jane Morgan.

    The Easy Fruit Pie is from Rachel Torres of Fort Knox. She is a former owner of a bakery in Louisville and is my new yoga instructor at Energy Sports and Fitness.
