    Emma Parks - Miss Heartland’s Outstanding Teen 2011 was the guest speaker at the Hardin County AM Rotary meeting on April 15. She spoke on platform of bully prevention, especially in elementary schools. She is pictured with Club President Jim Sullivan.

  • Garden Club has April meeting

    The Garden Club of Elizabethtown met April 8 at the Brown-Pusey House. Hostesses were MC Meserve and Jana Gore. Lacy Thomas, accompanied by his wife, Brenda, presented a program on attracting birds and other wildlife, which especially benefit gardens. He brought samples of birdhouses that are both functional and artistic.

  • Horse enthusiasts attend clinic

    District 5 4-H horse enthusiasts Stephanie Meredith, Brian Williams, Christy Gollmier, Briann Williams and Orry Williams (Hardin County) along with Dawn Cummings and Caitie Carman (Breckinridge County) recently attended a two-day Basic Horsemanship Clinic at the Kentucky Equine Humane Center in Lexington and Asbury College Equine Center in Wilmore.

  • Hardin County youth meet new friends at summer camp

    With the school year almost over, Hardin County youth will be heading for West KY 4-H Camp in Dawson Springs the week of June 21 through 24. 
    With this year’s theme “Win it in a 4-H Minute” Hardin County youth will join others from Breckinridge, Caldwell, Lyon and Trigg counties for some of the best days of their entire summer.

  • Cockriel celebrates 75th birthday

    Virginia Cockriel of Elizabethtown will celebrate her 75th birthday, today, April 27, 2011.

    She was born on April 27, 1936, in Petersburg, Ind.

    She raised her children with her husband of nearly 60 years, Hubert Cockriel, in Hardin County. 

    She has six children, Gary Cockriel of Elizabethtown, Sharon Vertrees and Brenda Hannas, both of Louisville, Debbie Vance of Elizabethtown and Cathy Morgan and Lynn Butler, both of Rineyville; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

  • A Notable Life: Mamapreneur Joanna Black shares her passion for music

    Faith, family, music and children are key components of Joanna Black’s life.

    As the mother of a 4-year-old girl, Kindermusik instructor, cello teacher and supervisor of developmental book sales, among other things, Joanna is a mamapreneur who has found a way to incorporate the things she loves into her work.

    “I come from a musical family,” Joanna said. “My dad was a traditional vocalist.”

  • Have babies, will travel ... if you’ll have us

    Coordination has never been my strong suit. If a couch is near, I’ll stub my toe on it. If a table is there, my thigh will find a corner. Door frames leap out and ram into my shoulders and hands as I walk through. I’ve hit my head on so many cabinets it’s a wonder I don’t have a permanent knot on top of my noggin. I am continually covered in bruises from an indeterminate origin, just because I run into things so often I forget which bruise went with which piece of furniture.
