        The rain was needed but the sunshine is appreciated more. I can see the cabbage heads forming in our garden. The tomatoes are on the vine but still green. Our berry bushes are producing early this year because of the warm weather. The blackberries and raspberries are plentiful. Hopefully soon we will be enjoying fresh corn, beans and tomatoes.

  • Members of the Elizabethtown Hardin LaRue Retired Teachers Association met May 17 with President Bill Kelley presiding.

    Joy Carroll Miller presented Kali Baker a scholarship from the organization. Kali has completed two years at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College and plans to attend Western Kentucky University to complete a degree in elementary education.

    A ceremony of remembrance honoring local retired educators who have died during the past year was conducted by Joyce Miller, Nora Sweat, Rebecca Bishop and Patsy Young.

  • Colleen Ames, a student of D. Sida Roberts, presented her senior piano recital May 12 at First Presbyterian Church in Elizabethtown. Included in the program were pieces from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Impressionistic and Modern periods. Colleen will attend Campbellsville University in the fall. She is the daughter of Randy and Mary Ames.
