  • RAMOS. Army Pvt. Andrew J. Ramos has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

    Ramos is the son of Felix Ramosrosario of Rineyville and Lorri Ramos of Colorado Springs, Colo.

    He is a 2012 graduate of Killeen High School in Texas.

  • OLLER. Army Private Clayton L. Oller has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga.

    Oller is the son of Doug Oller of Vine Grove and Donna Williams of LaGrange.

    He is a 2012 graduate of Oldham County High School in Buckner.

  • The Garden Club of Elizabethtown has had a busy six weeks of activities. The October meeting was well attended and members heard guest speaker Lisa Rhoads, VNA Nazareth Home Care, talk about types of exercises to warm up before working in their gardens. The Garden Club of Elizabethtown and the Potted Few Garden Club of Fort Knox hosted the Annual Dogwood District Meeting on Oct. 8 at Severns Valley Baptist Church. 

  • Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland wrapped up the month of October by making a mobile food pantry delivery to Barren County on Oct. 31. Despite the clouds and rain, residents of Glasgow showed up to the distribution, where nearly 5,000 pounds of fruits, vegetables, baked goods and other items were given out to those in need. 

  • The highly anticipated film adaptation of Orson Scott Card’s book “Ender’s Game” presents a thought-provoking story.

    The veteran cast and young actors mesh together to present a bleak view on a possible futuristic war with aliens. The film illustrates a future in which the hope of the entire human race is that children become warriors in video game driven warfare.
