  • Anthony and Leah Abang of Elizabethtown announce the birth of a son, Soren Dominic Abang, on Feb. 1, 2014, at Norton Suburban Hospital. He weighed 7 pounds and was 19 inches long.

    He has a brother, Bryce, and a sister, Greer.

    Maternal grandparents are Don and Aline Greer of Fairfield; and paternal grandparents are Raul and Aurora Abang of Louisville.

  • Felicia and Josh Perkins of Elizabethtown announce the birth of a daughter, Madeleine Elizabeth Perkins, on Jan. 31, 2014, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She weighed 7 pounds, 6 ounces and was 19.5 inches long.

    She has a brother, Douglas Prince Jr.

    Maternal grandparents are Anna Rigdon and Roy Boone, both of Elizabethtown; paternal grandmother is Teresa Perkins of Elizabethtown.

    Great-grandparents are Leona Rigdon, Arvil Rigdon and Donna Perkins.

  • Warm Blessings Soup Kitchen is preparing for the program’s second “Empty Bowls” dinner and fundraiser. The event is from 4 to 7 p.m. March 8 at the facility, 609 E. Dixie Ave., Elizabethtown. Soup will be donated by Roxie’s and chili and rolls will be provided by Texas Roadhouse. Jambalaya will be prepared by volunteers Emma Fellows and her mother Sara and Shoney’s is donating hot fudge cakes and volunteers to help serve.

  • The Elizabethtown Lions Club is offering local veterans a special opportunity to serve their community.

    The Involve a U.S. Veteran program is a nationwide initiative sponsored by Lions Clubs International that offers qualified veterans an entrance fee waiver of up to $30 when joining a local Lions club. The waiver is available to the first 5,000 veterans. The program runs through June 30, 2015.
