Today's Features

  • After publication of my book, “Mama and Me,” many of you know my mother very well. Today I want you to meet three more mothers. They are mothers of friends of mine, Beth Moore Nickell, Angela Goble Isaacs and Debbie Scott McQueary. All three ladies have lost their mothers and what an appropriate way to honor them is posthumously. I will let them introduce their mothers.

  • Elizabethtown native Rebecca Gayle Howell is a poet and translator recently involved in a poetry collection that has gained national attention.

    Along with Husam Qaisi, another Elizabethtown resident, Howell translated “Hagar Before the Occupation/

    Hagar After the Occupation” by Amal al-Jubouri. Their work was nominated for the national Best Translated Book Award this year.

    Howell and Qaisi will be at Barnes and Nobel Booksellers in Elizabethtown from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday for bilingual readings from the collection.

  • Recently, students from Allegro Dance Theatre auditioned for and were invited to dance with the Lula Washington Dance Theatre of California. Bart Lovins of the Hardin County Schools Performing Arts Center invited this professional modern dance troupe to perform at the center. Lula and her husband had come earlier in the summer to speak with dance school directors Carol E. Zagar of Allegro, and Sherry Barnard of the Dance Centre of Elizabethtown.

  • The second Sunday in May is approaching and as we all know, that is the day we honor our mothers or the mother figures in our lives.

    In my mind, every day is Mother’s Day.

    What would I do without my mother? First and foremost, I would not be here. As long as I can remember, my mother always has been there, even during the crazy stages in mine and my sister’s lives. She never once wavered.

  • Randi Campbell of St. Louis and Clinton Owens of Louisville announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.

    The bride-to-be is the daughter of Andrew Campbell and Michelle Allgood of St. Louis. She is a graduate of the University of Kentucky with a master’s degree in teaching.

  • The following marriage dissolutions have been granted in Hardin Circuit Court in Elizabethtown.

    Scott D. Smith, 33, Brandenburg, and Melissa Lee Stephenson, 28, Seguin, Texas. Married one year.

    Bryan Eric Henderson, 25, Sonora, and Christina Nicole Henderson, 25, Elizabethtown. Married seven years.

    Shawn Curt Staley, 38, Eastview, and Sabrina Nicolle Polly, 32, Jefferson City, Mo. Married five years.

    Don H. Henry II, 33, and Patricia Suzan Henry, 30, both of Vine Grove. Married three years.

  • The following cases of Driving Under the Influence and the resolution of those cases are found in Hardin District Court Division I in Elizabethtown. ADE is an abbreviation for Alcohol Driver Education, BAC is the Blood Alcohol Concentration reading, KAPS stands for Kentucky Alternative Programs, EIP stands for Early Intervention Program and VIP stands for Victims Impact Panel. A service fee is added to all DUIs and court costs are added to all charges. Birth year is in parenthesis.

  • Frederick Lewis and Nannie Berry Dohn of Rineyville celebrated their 50th anniversary May 4, 2012.

    They were married May 4, 1962, at New Salem Baptist Church in Vine Grove by the Rev. William R. Smith. Maid of honor was Betty Berry Miller, sister of the bride, and best man was Dr. Roger Goodwin, cousin of the groom.
