    Americans look forward to summer vacations, camping, family reunions, picnics and especially our nation’s birthday on the Fourth of July. Summertime, however, brings fires and injuries caused by fireworks and outdoor grills.

    According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, every year nearly 10,000 Americans are injured by fireworks and almost 5,000 are injured by charcoal, wood-burning and propane grill fires.

  • Dr. Richard Kyle Wheeling and Catherine Alexandra Hieronymus were married June 8, 2013, at The Barn at Cedar Grove in Greensburg. A reception followed.

    The groom is the son of Richard and Scarlett “Scottye” Wheeling of Elizabethtown.

    The bride is the daughter of Gayle Hieronymus of Prestonburg and the late Charles Hieronymus.

  • Dr. and Mrs. Brian C. Hammer of Elizabethtown announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Kelsie Renee, to Stephen Thomas Hamilton Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Thomas Hamilton Sr. of Bardstown.

    The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hammer and Mr. and Mrs. William Clayton of Elizabethtown. She is a 2009 graduate of Western Kentucky University and is a teacher at Cox’s Creek Elementary School.

  • Marion D. Henderson celebrated his 80th birthday June 19, 2013, with family and friends.

    He worked much of his life for Brandenburg Telephone Company under the late Joe Tobin and has wonderful memories of his time there. He now farms and is helpful to many people each day.

    The bride-to-be also is the daughter of the late Robert Overstreet. She is a 2013 graduate of Western Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry.

    The prospective groom also is a 2013 graduate of WKU with a Bachelor of Science in exercise science. He is a graduate assistant in clinical exercise kinesiology at Ball State University.

  • Ethan and Amanda Baker of Louisville announce the birth of a son, Levi William Baker, on June 7, 2013, at Suburban Hospital in Louisville. He weighed 8 pounds, 5 ounces and was 20 inches long.

    Maternal grandparents are Stuart and Diane Johnson of Louisville. Paternal grandparents are Owen and Suzanne Baker of Prospect.

    Great-grandparents are W.K. “David” and Anna Ruth Nichols of Cecilia, Gene and Ethel Baker of Pleasureville and Judy Richmond and Dorothy Grabois, both of Louisville.
