  • About a year ago, Vine Grove resident Monica de Leon added a little color to her life.

  • Buddy Greene performs in concert at 7 p.m. today at Elizabethtown Christian Academy.

    Greene, a singer-songwriter and guitarist, has a country, bluegrass, folk, gospel and blues style. He also plays harmonica.

  • The General Federation of Woman’s Club of Elizabethtown met May 3 at the Brown-Pusey House in Elizabethtown. Betty Sue French, president, called the meeting to order. A short business meeting was held.

    A moment of silent prayer was held for Claudia Thurman, a Woman’s Club member who recently succumbed to cancer.

    Kathy DeVeau presented the devotional per DVD in her absence.

  • The Fort Knox Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America held its monthly meeting at the MOAA Clubhouse on Fort Knox.

  • Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 1051, the Gold Vault Patriots spent May Day clearing debris from the roadside to enhance the view along Veterans Way in Elizabethtown.

    Fourteen members, armed with grabbers, walked in pairs staring at both ends of the road and met in the middle, completing the first round of cleanup. The veterans will keep Veterans Way clean on a regular schedule as of May 1. There are signs posted at both ends of the road that designate Chapter 1051, VVA, Gold Vault Patriots as the responsible agents to keep the road clean.

  • Ann Kowalkoski of the Garden Club of Elizabethtown congratulates Bridgette Durham on the occasion of the dedication of her new home. The Hardin County Habitat for Humanity held the Home Dedication Ceremony for the Durham Family Home on May 5 and the Garden Club of Elizabethtown donated two rosebushes to beautify the new residence.

  • Second-graders from St. James Catholic Regional School in Brownie Girl Scout Troop 1558 deliver handmade bookmarks and notepads to residents at Allegro Senior Living Facility.

  • Officers for the 2013-14 year were elected at the April meeting of the Zonta Club of Elizabethtown. Officers include President Ruth Ellen Stanley, seated, the club’s only charter member; and from left, Secretary Sue Story, Second Vice President Gail Crain, Treasurer Crystal Tilton and Director Lois Pierce. Not pictured are First Vice President Julia Workman and Director Ramona Jeffries. The new officers will meet soon to plan for the upcoming year to continue projects to improve the status of women.
