  • A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

    Not too long ago I typed, as near as I could remember it, that quote from Chinese philosopher Lao-tzu on the Facebook wall of a friend. She had announced she had made it through her first day back at work, after taking leave to attend to the medical needs of her son.

    I offered the quote as a sort of acknowledgement of support and encouragement.

    I’ve always admired that quote.

  • Sometimes a movie surprises you and “Silver Linings Playbook” did that for me. It is deserving of the award nominations and wins it has received.

    I was hesitant because I wasn’t sure Mr. Hangover Bradley Cooper could pull off the performance I had heard so much about, but he did. Also, I’m not a fan of strong language in films, and this has a bushel full, but the story pulls you in.

  • On Dec. 20 Carol T. Kennedy from Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation visited Wesley Hilltop House to host a Bingo game. She brought with her many prizes and the seniors played until everyone had won at least two gifs.

  • Members of Nolin Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation’s Operation Round-Up (ORU) program are doing their part in helping to fund the newly constructed Hardin County Veterans Tribute. In December, $10,000 was presented to the Hardin County Veterans Tribute Foundation. The money will be used to finish expenses on construction and design of the Tribute.

    Local citizens make up a non-profit board of directors that govern ORU. The board reviews applications for community projects and makes decisions on when, where, and how to utilize funds.
