    Signs of spring are beginning to show throughout the area as warm days and nights and rain make the grass turn green, flowers open and trees bloom as hopefully the last snow and extreme cold of the season has passed.

    Marvel kicks off the summer movie series early with “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” exploding onto screens today.

    We last saw Cap in “The Avengers” and find that since saving New York from an alien invasion, he has been working for S.H.I.E.L.D., alongside Natasha Romanoff aka the Black Widow.

  • Hardin County Playhouse offers audiences an award-winning drama at 7 p.m. today at Plum Alley Theater in the Historic State Theater in Elizabethtown.

    Performances of “Death and the Maiden” are at 7 p.m. today, Saturday and April 10-12 and 3 p.m. Sunday and April 13.

  • Hardin County Playhouse will hold auditions Monday and Tuesday for its production of “Fiddler on the Roof” at Plum Alley Theater in the Historic State Theater complex in Elizabethtown.

    Those auditioning should arrive at the theater no later than 6:30 p.m. No preparation of material is necessary although becoming familiar with the show will be helpful in the audition.

    Auditions will include reading from a provided script with other actors.

  • After a winter hiatus, the Fort Knox Potted Few Garden Club met in March to welcome spring.

    Renate Gosser and Linda Novak were hostesses. Gosser and Joyce Kelly presented a “Spring is Sprung” program on how to prepare an inside planter in a container.

    The next meeting is at 10 a.m. April 16 at the Glendale home of Bonnie Lush with Marilyn Ardisson as cohost. The program is “Fine Gardening” with Bob and Mary Ann Hines.
