  • The Northern Hardin County Democratic Women’s Club members recently attended the state convention in Frankfort.

    JoAnn Winkenhofer was elected the state second vice president and was named the recipient of the Anne Shanks Bourne Award for outstanding Democratic leaders who are on par with excellence in pursuits of life and exemplary in their support of the Democratic party, community service and in a wide variety of worthwhile projects.

  • If you haven’t heard, fall is the season for really good apples and if you haven’t already thought about making something with apples, hopefully you will after today’s column. George and Nora Bowles, friends from St. James Catholic Church, recently called about a recipe for apple butter not using apple cider. Cider is costly, but apple cider vinegar costs much less. I have since found a recipe for those of you who love apple butter that you could make any time using applesauce or stewed and pureed apples.

    Thank God I am feeling much better than I did last week as I wrote this column. I still feel sort of like a zombie with all the medication I am taking, but at least most of the pain has gone from the inflammation of my sciatic nerve.

  • Anna Kerns and Wilbur McConnell of Vine Grove announce the birth of a daughter, Matylda Elizabeth Danae McConnell, on Sept. 4, 2012, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She weighed 9 pounds, 4 ounces and was 20 inches long.

    She has a brother, Zero Kerns.

    Maternal grandparents are Debbie Butler of Cecilia and Jim Evrard of Paducah.

    Great-grandparents are Joe and Marie Butler of Tell City, Ind.

  • R.J. and Bev Dyrdek of Elizabethtown announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Abigail Dyrdek of Cecilia, to Luke Wilkinson of Cecilia, son of John Wilkinson of Portland, Tenn., and Dawn Sharpless of Biloxi, Miss.

    The bride-to-be is pursuing a Masters in Education at the University of Louisville.

    The prospective groom is a mechanical engineer at Remington Arms.

    The wedding is at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 3, 2012, at the Cathedral of the Assumption in Louisville.

    Formal invitations have been sent.
