  • Vietnam Motorcycle Club, Combat Veterans Motorcycle Club and Second Brigade Motorcycle Club held a flag raising ceremony at Chase Bank Lincoln Trail in Radcliff on July 5 in an event organized by Veterans Voices of Kentuckiana. The flag was raised in honor of prisoners of war, missing in action and all veterans. Fifteen people took part in the ceremony. Plans are being made to raise a flag at Big M Chevrolet in Radcliff. Volunteers for the detail are welcome.

  • KUBISCH. Army National Guard Pfc. James V. Kubisch has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

    Kubisch is the son of Melissa Kubisch of Elizabethtown.

    He is a 2010 graduate of John Hardin High School in Elizabethtown.

  • The newly elected officers of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 3 in Elizabethtown were sworn into office by past Chapter Commander Gary Rice at the regular May meeting at the Pritchard Community Center in Elizabethtown. Chapter Commander Terry Hoyt also was elected to the office of DAV Second District Commander at the spring meeting hosted by DAV Chapter 156 in Radcliff and was sworn into office at the DAV State Convention on June 16 by DAV National Commander Donald L. Samuels.

  • Captain Adam J. Moore took command of Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team at Fort Carson, Colo., on May 10.

    Moore is a native of Elizabethtown and a 2002 graduate of Central Hardin High School. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts from Norwich University, Military College of Vermont, he received a commission as an armor officer in 2006. Moore’s first assignment was as a troop fire support officer and scout platoon leader with Bandit Troop, 1st Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Hood, Texas.

  • Irvin Lyons, state commander for the Military Order of the Purple Heart, presented Patsy Chatman and Linda Drummond plaques honoring their commission as Kentucky Colonels.

    Chatman is the unit president and Drummond is the unit secretary for Post No. 148 Auxiliary. Lyons awarded them this honor for the work they have done in helping him achieve his mission of declaring cities throughout Kentucky as Purple Heart cities.

  • WOLF. Navy Seaman Recruit Adam Wolf, son of Rosa A. Menchaca of Elizabethtown, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill. Wolf is a 2005 graduate of Elizabethtown High School.

  • The Fort Knox Chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars held its monthly meeting June 19, at its clubhouse on Fort Knox.

    The primary purpose of the meeting was the election of the Chapter Commander and staff to serve the 2012-13 chapter year. Those elected were: Commander – Retired Col. Walter Meinshausen; Senior Vice-Commander – Retired Col. Dale Stewart; Junior Vice-Commander – Retired Lt. Col. John Dinnell; Adjutant – Retired Lt. Col. Lawrence Herzog; and Treasurer – Retired Lt. Col. Richard Ardisson.

  • Grab your fiddle and head to Leitchfield this weekend for a festival showcasing Kentucky's bluegrass roots.

    The highlight of the two-day event is the Twin Lakes National Fiddler Championship.

    Other activities include a bluegrass band contest, clogging, jig and buck dancing, a car show and the Fiddle Queen Pageant, organizers said.

    The pageant is at 6 p.m. Friday and the rest of the events are Saturday. The fiddle contest begins at 10 a.m. on the courthouse square.
