  • At the May 14 meeting of the Elizabethtown Lions Club, Lion Bill Swope received special recognition for his 60 years of service as a member of International Association of Lions Clubs. Lion Swope, as an active member of the Elizabethtown Lions Club, has shown dedication to service and willingness to light the path for others in fulfillment of the humanitarian principles of the International Association of Lions, living to the fullest the Lion’s motto, “We serve.”

  • The monthly meeting of the Central Kentucky Art Guild was May 20. The Artist of the Month in the general category was Joyce Lupresto with her pastel, “Dancing With The Angels.” In the former Artist of the Year category, Carl McKinley was selected for his watercolor, “Cherokee Park In Louisville.”

    A hands on watercolor activity was the program for the month for members and visitors. Next month’s meeting is at 6:30 p.m. June 17, at the Nolin RECC Building in Elizabethtown. Visitors are welcome.

    Although summer does not officially arrive until June 21, for me it begins with the roller coaster of 4-H events and activities such as District 5 qualifying horse show over Memorial Day weekend in Bowling Green, followed by 4-H summer camp June 4-7, then off to Lexington for state horse contests while my colleague, Marla Stillwell, will be at teen conference and Kentucky youth seminar.
