  • This month’s “One of Hardin County’s Finest Cooks,” Maria Barcenilla, is a native of Spain who moved to the United States 17 years ago with her husband, Frank Calvana, and daughter, Natalie.

    Maria teaches Spanish at Elizabethtown High School and fellow teacher Bonnie Young nominated her. Young said Barcenilla often entertains co-workers and close friends at her home and “dining at Maria’s house is comparable to any five-star restaurant.

  • Quality performance means doing your best when it matters most. It might surprise you that on Sept. 10, 2013, a high level performance took place at the Dairy Queen in Hopkins, Minn.

    Joey Prusak,19, is the manager of that Dairy Queen. He has worked there since he was 14.

  • A farm work ethic and desire to promote good customer service led Daniel Cox to top accolades with the Frito Lay, PepsiCo Company.

    Cox, a Howevalley native, traveled to New York City in June to be recognized with the PepsiCo Ring of Honor as a top salesman with the company at the American Museum of Natural History.

    For six years, Cox has been a route sales representative with about 20 stores on his route. Before working for Frito Lay he worked a route for Murray Cookies for 15 years.

  • Scotty and Sandra Peters of Cecilia announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Kayla Peters of Elizabethtown, to Nick Douthitt also of Elizabethtown, son of the late Douglas Douthitt and Darrell and Laura Miller of Eastview.

    The bride-to-be, a 2007 graduate of Central Hardin High School, is pursuing a degree in marketing and communications at the University of Louisville. She is employed in the marketing department at Bluegrass Cellular in Elizabethtown.

  • Chris Saltsman of Radcliff and Tim Willow of Vine Grove announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.

    The bride-to-be is the daughter of Willie and Gloria Saltsman of Radcliff. She is employed with the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

    The prospective groom is the son of Lee and Thelma Willow of Vine Grove. He is employed with Hardin County Schools.

    The wedding is at 1 p.m. Oct. 5, 2013, in Vine Grove with a reception to follow.

  • Robert and Yukiko Warford of Radcliff will celebrate their 58th wedding anniversary Oct. 3, 2013, in Tokyo.

    They were married Oct. 3, 1955, in Japan.

    Mr. Warford, 78, was born in Kentucky and retired from the military.

    Mrs. Warford, 78, was born in Japan.

    They have two children, Caroline Caves and Janet Perkins, both of Radcliff; and four grandchildren.

    KENTUCKY WEATHER. It warmed up a bit during the daytime and cooler in the mornings. Some leaves on the trees are beginning to turn colors. Fall finally is here. Get out and visit some of the areas pumpkins farms. It’s a good family time activity.

    The bride-to-be is a 2006 graduate of John Hardin High School, a 2010 graduate of Campbellsville University and a 2012 graduate of the University of the Cumberlands. She is a second-grade teacher at Heartland Elementary School.
