    The bride-to-be graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in child development and family studies from West Virginia University. She is a substitute teacher in Mongongalia County, W.Va.

  • Sunday is Easter and along with the new Sunday duds and egg hunts, families will gather around the table once again for a holiday meal.

    After attending church to celebrate the resurrection, my family typically gathers at my mom’s house for our big feast.

    Along with the ham, deviled eggs and other treats, there usually is a table full of desserts.

    As with any holiday celebration, desserts can be part of the meal and decorative elements coordinating with the holiday theme.

  • The Little Mermaid swims her way to the stage tonight in Allegro Dance Theatre’s musical theater ensemble production.

    Auditions were so successful director Carol Zagar triple cast the lead.

    “I chose to multiple-cast the part of Ariel because I had three young ladies who prepared and did well during their audition and deserved the part,” Zagar said.

    Including private performances for local students, there are nine performances so each actress performs as Ariel three times.

  • Celtic music comes to the forefront of many minds as St. Patrick’s Day approaches, but for some it’s more than a once-a-year experience.

    Associated with Scottish and Irish culture, Celtic music as a genre is debated by some. Still, many have a concept, both accurate and erroneous, of what Celtic music is.

  • The Fort Knox Chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars held its monthly meeting Feb. 19  at its clubhouse on Fort Knox.

  • Five members of the Radcliff Woman’s Club, Marilyn Williams, Carlo Triplett, Mary Agnes Sears, Becky Brecht and Florence Mason, celebrated the Chinese New Year by having dinner together at the Asian Buffet on Feb. 18.

    The get together was orchestrated by the club’s cultural awareness chairman Marilyn Williams, who encourages club members to become better acquainted with other cultures.

  • Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10281 members agreed at the last meeting to become a sponsor of the annual Mayberry Day in Vine Grove. According to Donna Broadway, events coordinator, “the festival will take place at the Vine Grove Optimist Park April 26 and 27.” Last year was the trial event for Mayberry Day. VFW Commander Butch Ferrell, left, presents a check for $500 to Donna Broadway to help with the event.
