  • The weather warmed up for the Easter weekend but it did rain Easter Sunday. There's an old saying, that if it rains on Easter Sunday it will rain seven Sundays in a row. We'll just have to wait and see.

    EASTER SUNRISE.  Easter Sunrise Service was held at Vertrees Baptist Church last Sunday.

  • Good to be back on the line again, my computer has been in the shop the past couple of weeks, I have really missed it. After one gets used to having a computer, then have to do without it, it almost seems like a family member is missing. Even though I don’t get the chance to be online much anymore, I do check my e-mail most every day to see what I have. I noticed I have more than 700 unread e-mails, of which I know I can never get all of those read, even though I dislike deleting any without first reading, I know I must.

  • Jessica Vittitoe and Robert Wease, both of Upton, announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.

    The bride-to-be is the daughter of Albert and Brenda Vittitoe of Lebanon Junction.

    The prospective groom is the son of Diane Golf of Radcliff.

    The wedding is at 2 p.m., April 13, 2013, at Hodgenville Church of Christ. A reception follows at Hodgenville Recreation Center.

    All friends and relatives are invited to attend.

  • Ben and Carina Jenkins of Bonnieville, announce the birth of a daughter, Lucy Ruth Jenkins, on Feb. 9, 2013, at Hardin Memorial Hospital.

    She weighed 7 pounds and was 20 ½ inches long.

    She has a brother, Riley.

    Maternal grandparents are Phillip and Anita Haycraft of Clarkson. Paternal grandparents are Bill and Janet Jenkins of Bonnieville.

    Great-grandparents are Ronnie Fields and Effie Riggs, both of Upton and Delmer and Jean Haycraft of Clarkson.

  • Paul and Edna Essex Williams, of Elizabethtown, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at 5 p.m., April 13, 2013, at Union Christian Church Fellowship Hall.

    They were married April 12, 1963, by the Rev. CC Omer at his residence in Hodgenville.

    Mr. Williams is the son of the late Albert and Hallie Williams. He retired from Dow Corning in 1999 and is an active member of the Valley Creek Fire Department. He also is a deacon at Union Christian Church.

  • The Women’s  Network of Greater Hardin County had Glenda Green as their guest speaker during their most recent monthly meeting.

    Green is a human rights specialist with the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights. She also serves as the Commission’s training coordinator and lead trainer for sexual harassment. She has been with the commission for 12 years as a member of the Education and Outreach Department.

  • The Garden Club of Elizabethtown is beginning it’s 41st  year. The club extends it’s emphasis on community awareness and involvement in many ways. The club is active in Habitat for Humanity, Greenspace, Let’s Spruce Up and the Hardin County Public Library. 

  • Troops of the 6th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team will case their colors during a ceremony at 1 p.m. Friday at Brooks Field at Fort Knox.

    The ceremony is a tradition that signals the unit’s readiness for its upcoming deployment to Afghanistan.
