A self-proclaimed Army brat, Barbara Underwood has traveled the world, taught school for decades and battled cancer seven times.
The highlight of her travels was going to the 1972 Olympics. As a former coach, she was happy to go to some volleyball games and track and field practices. When she went to the Olympics, it was the only time she missed the first day of school.

During her life, Mary Lois Smith spent some 30 years as an educator, was one of the first three women officers with the Elizabethtown Police Department, saw the integration of schools, survived cancer and made a lot of friends.
“I like meeting people,” the 87-year-old Elizabethtown woman said.
