Battle Cry’s harmonies will sound Sunday in Upton

Battle Cry Music Ministries will perform Sunday in Upton.

A Clarkson gospel group will perform Sunday at WJCR in Upton.

Battle Cry Music Ministry is made up of Tim and Paula Probus and Marilyn Givens Elmore.

While they all sing in harmony together, they each have distinct musical roles and backgrounds.

Tim is an ordained minister and evangelist, Paula said.

“Tim also sings lead vocals on some songs as well as baritone on others,” she said. “Brother Tim has been ministering since 2000.”

Paula is a musical director and disc jockey for WJCR 90.1 and has been singing gospel music since she was 7, she said.

As Paula and the Haycraft Sisters, she sang with her mother and aunt, later to sing with her mother, brother and husband as the Matthews Family.

She’s currently lead singer for Battle Cry and has written more than 35 songs, two of which hit the Singing News and Christian Voice top 80 charts, she said.

Elmore has 10 sisters and a twin brother.

“Their mother taught them to sing harmony,” Paula said. “Marilyn sings alto and tenor.”

Together, the trio sings southern Gospel and praise and worship music.

“God has been good to our group. We have had four songs hit the Singing News and Christian Voice national charts, three songs were in the top 80 and one song went to top 40,” she said. “God is good.”

Paula said the group feels their music is a calling.

“Battle Cry has a call for ministry. We love to see people find hope, be uplifted and come to know our greatest gift Jesus Christ,” she said. “We are driven to tell about the love of Christ because we know what he has done for us in our lives and continues to do daily.”

They often are found performing at churches, tent revivals, campgrounds, nursing homes, radio programs, Christian television programs, festivals, cruise ships and even Dollywood and Christmas in the Smokies.

“Brother Tim Probus brings the word when asked and we share the message of hope through Jesus Christ wherever we are asked to,” she said. “Battle Cry is about ministry and we love people.”

Sunday’s program begins at 11 a.m. at the radio station at 13101 Raider Hollow Road in Upton.

They have other upcoming appearances in the region.
